Goldpoint Headphone Pro - Page 21

I just got my amp back.. Been upgraded to V12.. I can't believe how much better it makes my 200 ohm DT48e sound.. Better separation, mid range, bass, detail, extra layer of blackness.. The sound is clinical with my oppo83SE.. But it's hard to stop listening.. This combo trounces all my previous headphone combinations.. Balanced 650/SA5000 DAC1.... BADA12/DAC1 with my 701/650/SA5000.. The new universal external PS arn incorporated in his amp really made a huge difference IMO.. If he is charging only 549.00 for Version 12, it is a ABSOLUTE STEAL..

Yes I just C/P from the DT48 thread.

V12. At this rate it will be at least V25 at new year :).

Nice to hear it work well. It stack up very well against my new Trafomatic Head One.

It likes my low impedance headphones a bit better then my 600 ohm T1 though.

What was once just a great bang for the buck is now a true piece of serious audio gear.. & if Arn is selling the V12 for 549.00 it easily embarrasses the HR2 which retails for 875.00.. This upgrade makes much more of a impact then his V6.. The difference with the external PS is truly stunning.. I hope Arn keeps improving on his amp.. I'll easily keep paying for big improvements like this.. Total I spent around 730.00..

Cool you compared the new PSU with the old. I haven´t come round to that yet. to many new toys at once.

What changes has there been since V9?

Hard to say.. I went from V6 to V12..:) EVEN greater bass control with better texture. A veil is lifted from the mid range.. Even greater clarity, resolve, sense of coherency & micro detail.. But the instrument separation was the most noticeable, & what really stuck out most along with the crazy like resolve was the inky black, black background. upgrading to V6 was like a desert.. V12 if like having a feast.. I want more upgrades..

Not me. My ears aren´t good enough to justify more upgrades. I can´t find any faults with it with my low impedance headphones.  Listening to Sirenia now and the Pro 900 and drums are out of this world. ratatatatatatatatatatat! The Pro 750/900 has always been trusty performers with rock. Particularly with percussive instruments but this is quite a ride!

SA5000 was kind of odd on my V3 GHP. Not quite as much now but it´s very enjoyable on both this and the Head one with bass that just wasn´t there before and highs that do sound better as well.

ED 8 I don´t remember being so nutty about previous either though I have always enjoyed it of course.

DX 1000 synergy was very good with the old amp and isn´t broken on this either.

T1 does sound good. Don´t want say it sound bad but I still feel the Head one seem to be able to take control of it a bit better.

You are from the UK, correct? If, so I can see why you might feel that way.. But living 15 miles from Arn makes getting a upgrade a no brainer.. I still feel the V12 upgrade will make the 900's bass sound even better.. & the differences are definatly audible.

Sweden... Yes the customs tried to rob me on the full amount but I had saved the shipping documents for the old amps and won the dispute.

But that wasn´t what I meant. What I mean is there is nothing to fix so feels a bit pointless to upgrade it even further. To close to perfection. But I won´t say never.

I am glad I picked up the 900 again. Like the T1 it let me hear the differences between the GHP and Head one more clear Sirenia has been on my head for quite a while now and there is slightly lower ratatatatatatatatatatat on the Head One. A bit softer and slightly more forgiving too but that too is marginal. Will probably fail double blind tests.

My camera is broken so can´t give the david vs goliath perspective but it´s crazy that something so small can perform as good or even better then these amps ;)

Interesting or perhaps fascinating is the word I was after. Nevertheless I will ask Arn how much it will cost me to upgrade my amp to v12 (mine is v2). I probably won't upgrade because of costs (shipping twice, mod, labour, customs).

Could someone please point me to that amp's measured specs, such as frequency response curve, THD etc.

There isn´t any specs... I am quite curious about the current output myself.

Not at Arn's site? What about the maunal that acompanied the amp? I misplaced mine, but vaguely remember seeing some specs..

No I haven´t seen any specs... Asked for current output once but he didn´t have any such.

Is it worth upgrading to the auditor? I was thinking of buying one, but after hearing the V12 my interest has wained a bit..

For 600 ohm headphones perhaps. The T1 impresses a lot technically on the Auditor and is very revealing with superb soundstaging for classical. Not a good combo for bass heads though.

For low impedance headphones it feels like the GHP has more power and control. But at least they are different to eachother so the Auditor may be a good second flavour? It´s more a sidegrade then upgrade.
