Yes I think they do great with trance. They do well with pretty much everything though.

Thought I'd post my 2 hr impressions here as well, since this seems to be the main GP thread.. As I stated prior.. The amp seems to be more efficent power wise. More volume & drive on a lower setting.. Cleaner.. Much blacker canvas.. My DT48a with 50 adapter has no hissing at all.. I notice a difference in how instruments decay.. higher resolution, & they seem to slowly fade into the black ground better, more naturally, & more convincing then before, especially during complex passages. Just seem to extend to it's full 'cycle'. Theres a bit more resolve, & more to see so to speak.. The strengths of the amp all get a bump with the upgrade.. Bass is even more controlled with a bit more thump, & full body texture to it.. Not a great improvement in that area, but you will notice it.. & in general the amp is even more detailed, with a more effortless clarity. IMO, the upgrade is well worth it.. No down side.. Albeit, with my amp I notice the clicking to be loud, distractingly loud when I change the volume.. Before the upgrade, the loudness of the clicking was minimal.. I emailed Arn my concern.. Hopefully, it's just my amp & has nothing to do with the upgrade.. & isn't that much of a concern unless you constantly change the volume.. My main concern is the clickings loudness leading to some other problem. I already emailed Arn about this.

My DAC is a modded & balanced BC2.. & PS3 as my CDPer.. Which is excellent for a console, maybe it's the cell chip.. But runs circles around the 360 as a transport.. Have yet to try it with my Denon 5900, which is a nice improvement over my PS3 interms of lowered noise floor, more detail, & higher resolution..

This amp sounds like it would go well with what I listen to (trance). I'm looking for an amp for my D7000's has anyone tried this combination? Thanks.

Would definatly control the D7000's bass.. Reduce the 'bloat' many talk about..

Before trying the amp again, I plugged & replugged everything.. The clicking loudness is back to a bleep instead of a stomp in the forest.. Not sure what happened.. The upgrade really transformed my Technic Ortho's into a beast.. Makes me want to hear all my music again.

Thanks kool bubba ice, for the first hand impression about the latest iteration of the Headphone Pro. I have been sitting on the fence waiting to see if it is worthwhile to spent the money (shipment back to USA is significant). I was told this latest version is version 5 and the one I have is version 3.

Arn did say about the improved resolution and control - that makes me tempted. The volume pot related noise is worrying though.

After listening more & more.. The clicking gets louder when you raise the volume, & also seem to vary by headphone.. Less clicking noise with higher ohm, less sensitive headphones.. But, when I first took a listen I tried 2-3 headphones & all the clicks were loud regardless.. So the loudness has diminished, since I first got it.. like I said before, you only get the click when you raise/lower the volume.. I know, all Stepp Att have a small click.. The loudness just seemed to be more after I got it back.. slowly Changing the volume with a 1-2 second pause in between always diminishes the loudness to a small bleep.. I'm sure it's just my amp.. From my Business dealing with Arn he is always extra cautious & is a perfectionist. I wouldn't have any concerns sending it in.. Just the wait..

^ But you are in the USA. I too was intrigued with the upgrade but after doing the math did not carry on. The mod itself is cheap but shipping both ways + import taxes (real killer) made things too expensive for me (had to buy the Buffalo

).

I´m not inclined to worry about the clicking when changing volume. It´s what attenuators do.

Ofcourse, but you missed my point. Why would the clicking be louder after I got my amp back. I'm aware of clicking.

Not a deal breaker.. Just the first half hr it was really noticeable.. The loudness has seemed to subsided back to it's normal click in the past 2 days.. Maybe 'break in.' Not sure..

I just tried out the amp with my Denon 5900 being used as a transport. I would label the PS3 as being more 'fun' sounding, while the Denon adds a more dark, serious presentation to the music.. Better focus with higher resolve, especially the little details involving the mid range.. In one song, the p word was more prononced by a vocalist using the 5900.. The 5900 is better, but was expecting a bigger bump.. & a lot of it is preference based.. 'fun' vs 'serious.'

I really wish this amp was more popular. Would love to hear side by side impressions with the GS1 ans SPL Auditor. Arn is a great guy to deal with, and I wouldn't be afraid to put his engineering skills against Dusty, Ray, or Justin.
