Another Update!! X-1000 Touchscreen Walkman 19th May release date - Page 7

Sony Centres in the UK are franchise, meaning they are not owned and run by Sony themselves - which partly explains why they do not know squat. The Sony Centre Watford for example is run by the same staff of the electronic store next door, which sells competitors brands.

Even if it is run by Sony themselves, you might still be surprised how little they know sometimes. Oh dear, it's a Japanese corporation that we are talking about :-)

I work in a research center for a famous Japanese brand. Yes we are working for the products aiming the next 3-5 years, yet we still got surprised lots of times by the sudden information coming from the Japan side... They always have their own reasons.

Hey vedye, about a month before the A829 was released, it was listed for pre-order at Sony UK. So I called to find out when it might be released, and was told that the UK would not be getting the 16GB model, only the 8GB. So I asked why it was listed on the website then if it wasn't available, and I was told it wasn't listed, even though I was actually looking at while I was talking to her. She told me I must be mistaken because the UK was definitely not getting the 16GB version, and asked me to email her the link, which I did. The next day, it was removed from the page.

And then 2 weeks later I bought the 16GB model from Amazon... and it was also listed on the Sony website again

Actually, I didn't mind SS at all by the end. The later version was much more stable, and I really did like all the 'extras', gapless, on-the-fly playlists etc. And I see you've already spent a fortune on audio gear the past year!! Me too, so I'm selling the Touch (but still getting a smaller capacity model!) and I'll sell my A829 as well. That should help towards the cost!
suzie, you are a busy girl. i have bought and sold my fair share, but never never have i ventured to even imagine what it would be like to do that not only as a hobby, a job but also a study, a waking moment and in sleep. never.

i really wish i would have purchased the 8gb touch, not the 16gb: i just don't use that space. despite my (shrinking now) library of 150GB, i just swap as i go as i am always busy on itunes buying and redeeming...

Gossip: From a taiwan forum someone claimed that the X series is quietly in stock in HK in certain shops. But not released yet.

The sonystyle HK shows pre-registration for X series at the moment.

I really hope they are going to suprise us and it'll be released sooner rather than later..

Does anyone think that the price may drop a little? £283 seems a little steep to me

Unless you are really into your music i think 90% of people would go with the itouch, they can had quite cheaply on the bay.

It's available for pre-ordering at eXpansys.. go to the link, select your country and make a search for "Sony x-series". I pre-ordered one from Sweden but I heard there is non for Canada and probably not for the US either.

LINK: eXpansys

BTW, does anyone know if it supports unicode characters such as ş ç ı ğ?

Some specs!

This link to Sony H/K was posted over at Sony Insider where everyone (including me!) is trying to find out the tiniest details about the ZX. The specs are in the link. Nine hours for video is pretty amazing!

Sony Portable Audio NWZ-X1060 - Sonystyle.com.hk

An excerpt or two

Continuous Playback Time Music: approx. 33 hours , Video: approx. 9 hours

Internet Browser*11, YouTube™, Podcast Direct Download

Internet Browser NetFront Browser for Walkman

EDIT: I have no idea if some of the features are just for Japan models, but there's a lot of info in the link.

Hmmm, that's really weird. My current Sony and the ones before that supported at least 320kbps wma. I don't know why would that have changed, it makes no sense. As for compressed lossless, I don't think anyone was expecting it, since none of the previous models supported it anyway. The wma bitrate is a mystery though

Max VBR support for WMA10 is 192kbps anyway. (at least for 2-passes...)

I have a feeling that whoever wrote up the specs assumed that the max VBR bitrate is the same as the max CBR bitrate. At least I think so. Not that I care as I hardly ever encode in WMA nowadays.

Don't worry, WMA VBR max 192k, CBR still 320k.

As for the video resolution: oh dear, it's still a sony. iPod is not much better at this either. I wonder who really use them for movies or TV shows that much.

lossless: ... it's a sony... :-(

Update: from sony Australia newsletter... "The X Series Touch Screen Walkman will be available in 16GB and 32GB models from late May 2009." That's in Australia of course.
