Tell me about it, it's like waiting for a sweet video game system 360-PS3, or a Zelda game or MGS, GTA, GOW, Halo wars or God of war 3, ect , ect to be released,... That is if your a gamer

Nothing is hyped as much as a big release game, and such a long lead time. Killzone 2 for example, announced 2005 I believe, and going to be on shelves at the end of this month.
The digital amp in this player is one of sony's high end ones. I have listened to many mini discs with digital amps. Sometimes they sound good, sometimes they sound awesome. Digital amps use less juice, but require digital filters to shape the sound and most don't need output caps- from what I understand. The last sony player I listened to with a "higher" end (faster sampling rate) digital amp was the mini disc recorder RH1 . It sounded amazing, so heres hoping.
The iqube is an example of a class d amp done right. I don't think any of sony's previous daps have used class d amps. Just their MD units. But I really think that in most cases the class d amps are just better at heat and power management, not a marked sonic improvement over a class A a/b amp.
That being said, I do think sony's daps have been getting better sounding with every gen. Less noise and more clarity, with their signature beefy-bassy slightly V shaped/forward sound sig. The new s630/s730 tested pretty flat across the spectrum with little variance and very low noise. Something I think older sony daps would have trouble with.
