And secondly most HD650 owners probably wont be interested in the HD800 precisely because of its price. Because of this Sennheiser is catering to users who probably are more familiar with high end, $1k+, Stax and Dynamics so comparing the HD800 mainly to those high end setups becomes quite relevant.
I think people put too much into preference.. It gets muddy, since opinions and preference is neither right or wrong, but there must be a breaking point. Ala, my 10.00 ear buds have a better mid range then the R10's etc.

Do any of the folks in the know have any idea on how the HD800 is fastened together? Are there screws, is it snapped together a la older Sens? How much lighter (or heavier) is the HD800 than the HD650?

Thanks for the review Murugesh, its great to hear these cans compared to some more commonly discussed than the L3000, etc. I'm really looking forward to the next little while when more reviews continue to filter in!

These glowing HD800 reviews are poisoning my mind. You will all be to blame when I join Team Ramen!

I like your avatar Maxvla. It is, shall we say, a bit opaque?

It's a pic of Pernambuco wood, a high grade of Brazilwood from the South American rainforests. It's used in violin bow making. Thanks for the compliment.

I knew there would be an interesting story behind it. Thanks for sharing. Do you make bows for violins?

No, but I do repair them as well as the violins (violas, cellos, and basses also).

Another favorite is bird's eye maple http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/9...iron018ay1.jpg

Anyone else see the irony in an HD800 thread going off topic about high quality wood?
