klipsch image x10 vs sennheiser ie8 for a basshead?

Hi all,

I'm looking at either the klipsch image x10s or the sennheiser ie8s. I am a self-proclaimed basshead and would like to know your opinions on which headphones you think I would prefer considering the fact that I am a basshead? Thanks for any help and insights!

The bass of the x10's seemed crazy to me at first, especially coming from SE310's. It was everything I wanted and more. But, I adjusted to the sound (or maybe they burned in?) in about two weeks.

I have had the IE8's for about a month now, and the bass is still great, plus it's on the lowest setting. So, with that, I recommend the IE8's.

Bass head huh? Get the IE 8, then turn the knob to max. It's like having a subwoofer in your head.

I had the X10 was very disappointed with the bass. The bass seems on the same level as the treble. Trust me I got a good seal and it much more bass than my Shure e4c. The music has no layer, they are very comfortable however. Now I am using the sennheiser ie7 and is amazed by the bass and how warm and smooth the sound it produce. if you want to stick with klipsch, i recommend the Custom 3, which will offer more bass than the X10

IE8 is all need if you want bass impact

I would prefer the IE8, as the bass for the IE8 when set to the minimum is very impressive! i think that the bass when set to the minimum, it still better then the westone 3!

Second that! W3 bass just doesn't compare to IE8.

IE8 is the king of bass when it comes to universal IEM's

The IE8s cannot be beaten for bass impact, even on the lowest setting.

Sure it does. Not as deep maybe, but certainly can be compared. I only mention it because you and Ronald Lee brought the W3 into the discussion, even though it's supposed to be between the IE8 and the X10. I've owned both and kept the X10 for comfort, sold the IE8 for poor isolation.

An excerpt from HPAddict's W3 review...

"The W3 bass has great texture, and is very detailed and quick. It has good presence and power at the proper or appropriate levels one expects with the particular music that is being played. If the bass is supposed to be loud in the music then it is loud with the W3, and if it is not then it isn't. In electronic music like Infected Mushroom "B.P. Empire" the bass is pervasive and pounding and beats you mercilessly; while in music like Guinea Pig "Kool Cats" the string bass is tight and crisp, and totally believable with sharp attack and realistic decay. Comparing the Denon C700 bass to the Westone 3 makes the Denon C700 sound positively muddy, while the Klipsch Image X10 have very good bass but still lack the weight and punch of the Westone 3. Typically one does not describe bass in an IEM as "tactile" but these offer the illusion of a very "speaker-like bass response". I have made this same description of the Edition 9 bass response, and it is equally fitting for the Westone 3. This is just as helpful with classical music as with jazz, rock, or electronic, since the hall's resonance is a low deep echo that puts you right there in the audience in the front row (fortunately not on stage). Also, these play easily down to 20Hz with test tones, and don't seem to have any bass peaks or anomalies."

But if choosing between the IE8 and the X10 for bass alone, the IE8 is the obvious choice.

I know you are big fans for W3. When it comes to bass impact, you can not beat IE8, not if you are recommending 10 pro to compare with, which seems have better deep bass.

W3 is not in the same level as IE8, at least with normal audience, not everyone like HPA can tell nuance difference. To be honest, if you want bass impact, just go for IE8, turn bass knob to max, you will be in heaven. Can UM3X could match for bass quantity,my answer is no,but it does not mean UM3X don't have enough bass for my taste.

I recommened the IE8 (I only kept the X10 for my wife, she likes the gels).

I am just saying that quality-wise, the W3 is not way below the IE8, not at all. Which is what cn11 said, the W3 "just doesn't compare." I don't think it's that drastic a difference. Different, sure. But comparable for bass quality? I believe so. For the "normal" audience, sure, then the IE8. Just crank up the bass booster.

Well I’ll say that my ears heard a major difference. I’m not mincing words here. Are you being so presumptuous as to say that I must not be hearing things correctly? Don’t forget I had both at the same time, and did extensive back to back comparisons. Sorry pal, I call ‘em like I hear ‘em. And honestly, your charade of trying to convince people they’re wrong and mistaken is getting way overplayed. Anyway, what about your own thoughts about the bass of both the IE8's and the W3's? Howcome you're pulling from Headphoneaddict’s review, and don't offer your own impressions, seeing as you had both? Puzzling.

Also, to keep it about the IE8 or X10, I found that the IE8's handily surpass the X10's in bass as well. The only other earphone that can match it in bass prowess that I've heard is the Atrio, and between both, I'd consider it a draw.

Wow, thanks guys for all the comments. I'm the OP and I don't mind adding the W3 or UM3X to the discussion because those are also under consideration!
