So recently i have lost my westone UM1 IEM. Those were my first IEM & i really had no complaints about them other then replacing them expensive comply tips. So my question now that i am in the market again should i go ahead and replace them with some more Um1's or should i possibly look into anything else....I believe there is a dual driver IEM for not much more then the UM1 the SUPER.FI 5's . So should i upgrade to a dual driver? or just replace with UM1's. I do have a bit of a concern if i get another pair of IEM they wont be as comfortable as the UM1's as i could wear those for hours and really forget they were on my ears. Im thinking about getting something that supports silicon tips too so i dont have to change expensive tips so often. I have a pair of senniehensor 300cxb, & these other similiar ones from costco with those larger tips which i think arent considered monitors, and those dont compare at all and hurt my ears

If you experienced discomfort with the CX tips...I would stick with any IEM that can use comply tips (comply are hard to beat when it comes to comfort)...There is also the Westone UM2 that you may like...

Just go nuts and but the Westone 3!
But if that's too much $$, go UM2, you'll enjoy them

I think UM2 is a good choice
Will i be able to tell an audio difference between the um2 over the um1.....i guess what i am saying is the um1 sounds good.....will the um2 actually sound better for the money.....or will it be a placebo effect of me thinking they sound better because i spent more $$$? So im wondering if anyone has used them back to back. I think im going to try the sure triflanges as i suspect they last longer then the comply tips

UM1>UM2 : Yes you will be able to tell the difference quite substantially. It's a similar sound signature but a beefier fuller and more dynamic presentation. You should be pleasently surprised.
ok guys i ended up with the um1's again, but now i think im ready financially to upgrade again, but is there any direct comparisons between the um3x and westone 3 ? um2 would be an option as well, but now. Its so hard to keep up with all the new choices out there, specially westone, not even sure where there Ones come in.

If you liked the UM1 you might really like the UM2s. More fuller and engaging sound I guarantee you. The W3 is sort of different in the sense that they have this more sparkling and articulating treble (also a bit artificial). The UM3X are more neutrally tuned in this regard, somewhat like the UM2 except much more controlled (The UM2s can sound really wild at times in comparison) and has less bass.

I have had the UM2 for 2 or 3 years. I like them more than any other earphone I have. I don't take them to hostile environments (pool hall, washing car) and have been trying to find an alternative. I tried RE0 and S4, but neither are close to the UM2!

I had mine for about 3 years before upgrading to W3 (in January) and I'm quite pleased. After living with UM2s for so long I thought I might have to go custom, then W3's came out. Just after I got them UM3x came out and IMO is probably a more natural progression from UM2 - but I was astounded by the great range extension in both directions going from UM2 to W3 and the comparative 'wow' factor is what I was looking for (classic rock, pop, light jazz on Sony DAPs). I use mine with Shure grey silicone softips as I find them most comfortable with great sound, easy maintenance, and long-lasting. Either one (W3, UM3x) contains Westone's excellent physical design and cable - that's where your upgrade lies.

If you don't want to stretch for a UM3X or W3, UM2 is indeed a very good choice. Value-wise I strongly suggest sticking with UM2 if you decide to choose a Westone product. You won't be disappointed (especially coming from UM1). And yes I've owned /own all of the above.
Or you can also consider the new Westone 1, good reviews here (you have to dig a little in the forum though)
