Mhm. Sound quality was good, but not great. Peaky sound, definitely bass-driven. Tuned for rap music. Not much else. Although the sound isolation was great at relieving the ears from the harvest of ambient noise that circumaural phones often have, it did seem to impede on the effectiveness of the speakers. Plus, there was no option to turn off the sound isolation and continue playing music-- And due to the system, no AAA batteries = no music. I listen to a lot of ultratechnical metal, so a flatter EQ with a lot of clarity is something that I find in high priority. Besides, for what turned out to be $419.99, one could easily find something better (For example, some good Grados with some money for lunch leftover).

Well some negatives are that your iPod could become a bit unstable, not much, but just a bit. It can become slow in some points because if you have a theme set up, the app will be constantly running. It does not disable/limit any apps. It's just a stock iPod+More stuff-Some problems. Apple has the App Kill Switch, but you can download BossPrefs and turn it off.
For iPod touch 1st gen: QuickPwn
For iPod touch 2nd gen: Redsn0w? There are many ways, but I have not idea since I don't have a 2G... Check out the following links for some tuts on this forum I'm on

Windows tut: [Windows] Redsn0w Tutorial [Semi-Tethered] - iPod touch Fans forum
Mac tut: [Mac] Redsn0w Tutorial [Semi-Tethered] - iPod touch Fans forum

These are both semi tethered. The jailbreak still isn't perfect yet I don't think, and if you switch off/reset your iPod, it will boot into non-jailbroken. You must then boot it up using a computer. There is this dongle I am hearing about that let's you connect to your iPod and boot it up, but I think it costs. Or you could go for the tethered version, which is if you reset/switch off your iPod, then it just won't boot.
And I've been jailbreaking since November 2007, and it's not much of a hassle. If anything does go wrong, restore it via iTunes.

I've not put my 16gb Ipod touch 2g down for more than a few hours since I received it just before Christmas, it's an awesome device!

Yes I have already got the Tethered Jailbreak installed which just gives it what in my opinion was missing.

See how awesome it looks when a theme is applied.

Going to try and make my own theme. (when my wacom decides to work again!)

As for pausing the playback just get a microphone thingy with a button that will pause/start playback.

I have no problems with anything slowing down on the 2g the faster processor really makes it run smooth.

So you jailbreak your itouch g2 successfully? I'm thinking of doing that but still scared

Don't be! It's like recable-ing a headphone. Scary at first, but you'll be glad you did it

Is there an official jailbreak for the touch g2?

Does the album art show up on that theme? It's pretty sharp, I might consider jailbraking my 2g.

Handy, but a little unnerving, especially if you're pulling it out by the cord. The Monster Cable Beats that I owned for a week (and subsequently returned; terrible things, they were) had a nice mic extension (for the iPhone), where the Answer button was conveniently compatible with the iPod Touch and worked well as a controller: One click pause, two click next, three click previous. I'd grown used to its convenience. Damn.
Griffin SmartTalk is my solution. It's really for iPhone, but has a pause/skip button. I just keep it rolled and short with a twist tie, and it works. It has a clip, so you can clip it onto your jacket pocket, etc. It does extend the HP cable, but again, I keep it short, bundled.

Yes album art displays.
Official jailbreak? Well that's a yes and no as in yes there is a (tethered) jailbreak specificaly for the 2g. No if you are thinking Apple make the jailbreak.
Jailbreaking your iPod is really simple to do and I would recomend you to try the ultimate jailbreak GUI over on ipodtouchfans.com. It worked perfectly for me.
AND if you do mess up the install it's easy to just reinstall the original firmware. The hardest part for some has been getting the timing right when switching the iPod into DFU mode, though I had no problem with this.

If at anytime you need to unjailbreak then it leaves very little trace of the jailbreak.

Only one point to remember is that until an untethered jailbreak is released you will need to plug your ipod into your pc or mac to restart it should you loose power.

Read, study and learn what you need first and jailbreaking is a piece of cake!

Go for it!

Alright, I decided to bit the bullet and got me an iPod Touch 32gb 2nd Gen... I was going to wait for a future 64gb (or more) version but since with Apple, you never know what audio chip they'll be using, I got one right now.

And my initial impressions on listening to music came out with one word... Wow... This completely render my portable setup (Classic 160gb and Predator amp) useless, the sound quality is so much better it's not even funny... As mentioned here the soundstage does sound bigger too. I did A/B a few songs using both players and there's no doubt in my mind - the Touch sound better, and not only marginally (using my ATH-ES7 for the test).

Now I wonder how it would sound with a iPhone LOD (since my TurboDock doesn't work with it) connected thru the Predator.. :O

i prefer the chalky sound from the sony bass sometimes but the touch is just so sharp.

has a load of useful apps as well. but definately check out the graphics for need for speed. here is a recent thread about need for speed but many other great games exist.

holy crap, thats insane

i guess i had heard from many people that they were not that bassy so i was surprised by this. less bass say for instance than the dt770, the hd650 and some others that we consider staples here at headfi.

I wouldn't disagree with people saying its bright sounding

but definately not overblown bass ! - try a Sony in comparison ! - they are way overblown for bass - especially in comparison to the touch
