Ipod Touch 2g is very very impressive!

After a very long readhttp://www.head-fi.org/forums/f15/si...thread-361975/, I decided to get the cheaper 8g version.

Now for the impression:
The Touch is very very impressive. First of all the sound quality IMO is better than my Sony 818 on Ety 4s and Ms Pro. The Soundstage does feel 10% larger than the 818. Sound character is less warm and more neutral than the sony. When I say less warm, keep in mind that it is still warm, just less than the A818. I feel that the mid in the A818 is a bit more emphasized, thus high end can feel missing. Being a treble lover (Ety 4S lover), the Touch is better in this regard.

Browsing through the music library thorugh 3" screen + cover flow is simply awesome, much better than text only (which I had in the Sony, cause using Mac you can't transfer the album cover picture into the Sony)

What is more, that you can't get with any of the other DAPs is the entire Ipod Touch experience. Shopping music from the Itunes store, the GREAT games available, Web browsing, RSS feed applications, Watching You Tube, the list just goes on and on. Like when I get bored and there's nothing good on TV, I just open the touch, click on YouTube, and just watch videos after videos. True, you can do it on a laptop too, but with the Touch it's different, you watch it outdoor, sitting on the couch, walking around, whereas a laptop is much more bulky.

The Touch is so much fun that even my wife (who normally don't care for my gadgets) are fighting over who gets to use the Touch! (she loves Bejeweled 2) I'm now thinking of buying a second Touch so we both can have our own Ipod!

The Itunes store, the Application store makes me feel like I'm re-discovering the internet. Shoot, I never knew the Internet is capable of so much more than Email and Forums and Facebook.

Buying music in the Itunes store, I somehow manage to find great NEW classical recording releases that I never before find on Amazon.com and such. (Though when I crosschecked Amazon, they do have the CD too, it's just Itunes store does a much better job in making new releases visible.)

So if you're a music lover and has never been into the Itunes store, you better check it out. Set up an account, browse, click, and music is downloaded straight into your Ipod!!

I've never been this excited with a gadget -- ever. Not even when I got my Ms Pro or Ety 4S.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Only negative: Built in speaker can't get into decent volume level.

It is a fun toy, and it grows on you over time. Enjoy it.

I still don't feel that the iPod Touch sounds better then the Classic. Is it just me? Don't get me wrong, I think the Touch is awesome.

Yep, it sure is an awesome little device. Very easy to use (compiling on the go playlists is a breaze, for example) and a lot of fun as well.

My only concern at the moment is the battery life for gaming - it seems it can only handle about 2-4 hours (depending on brightness) of gaming before it needs a recharge.

Overall though, I love mine.

yep.. the same complaint here too.. battery suffers heavily but in my case from Wifi usage. Still, a very happy user overall though.

I never listened to the Classic.. so can't say anything on that one.

Yes it's a sweet device, the games do burn the juice though (need a longer cord for the AC adapter). I find this device quickly surpassing the PSP and DX as a gaming machine. The games are getting better and the variety can make your head spin, Im playing a really good old school RPG (Arvale) right now My prediction for apples next touch, a nano sized touch device with an oled screen, and of course a 64 gig touch.

And movies and music it goes without saying are awesome. Glad to hear your enjoying it, and nice to see another positive SQ thread for apple.

I still prefer a DS for portable gaming, just because of the choices that Nintendo has for it, but for the quickie 10-20 minute gaming sessions, the Touch is absolutely fine for them.

And agree on the positive SQ on the Touch, I still do not know why people keep knocking Apple for SQ on the current-gen iPods. They sound excellent to me across the board.

Bunch of cool games on the iTouch\iPhone platform now.. the graphic quality I think is definitely at least on par with the DS, and closing in on PSP. I mean the technical aspect of graphic, like size of sprites that they use, 3D detail levels.. but if you compare the screen, it's definitely much better than the DS.

There is a rumor that Apple will allow $20 premium game on the App store.
We may see games hit PSP quality/game play.

I've been amazed by the quality of the graphics on the touch. The games too seem fun - I'm playing Critter Crunch currently and it's addictive as hell. But, with a max of 4 hours of gaming, it's not going to be able to replace the DS or PSP for lengthy trips.

For a 20 minute blast in the office it's fantastic though.

Hmm, $20 premium games - my mind boggles.

I must say that it still impresses me also. This thing is so much more than just an MP3 player. Even though I really wouldn't have to, I can't help picking it up at least once a day and play something or check AppSniper and AppStore if there's something new offered.

Listening music is about 5 % of what I do with this thing.

Another Touch fan here, but mainly for tunes, not games (guess too old to see it well enough).

Yikes, but thats ok., one thing I love about the app store is new apps and games come so fast. Plus with all the new stuff, if you just wait you can score good games for cheap. Like I bought Westward (sim - town building) and the previous mentioned Arvale (rpg) for 2.99 each. They both are supposed to last for about 20 hrs, that a good value. Distant shore is fun for a buck also, I like to send weird messages to people, So if you get a message about NWO, illuminati, or reptoids it's probable me LOL.

Sorry, didn't mean to turn this into another app thread.

just wait till you see the graphics for need for speed undercover for the touch: amazing. aside from games, the musical performance is my favourite: great sound with as mentioned a wide soundstage which should be more than 10% wider than the sony statistically speaking from separation number, but oh bother.

i prefer the chalky sound from the sony bass sometimes but the touch is just so sharp.

has a load of useful apps as well. but definately check out the graphics for need for speed. here is a recent thread about need for speed but many other great games exist.
