Denon AH-D7000 Appreciation Society - Page 30

Sorry to interrupt any ongoing conversations on here but... I just joined the forum yesterday (Hi everyone smily_headphones1.gif), I am expecting some Denon D7000's in the post tomorrow (really excited!!).

The Denons will be a big jump up for me as I am currently using Sennheiser HD25-1 II's.

I am currently working my way through all the post about the Denon D7000s. I am thinking about upgrading to the Burson HA-160DS, is anyone here using it to drive the Denon D7000s? For now I will be using a Fiio E7+E9 connected to my PC but am worried that it wont get the most out of the D7000s, any thoughts much appreciated!

Better late than never.

I'm picking up my second pair of D7000s tomorrow for the office (never should have let my first pair go). I'm off till Monday, and have the HA 160D at home, I have no doubt it will drive them superbly, but I'll post some comments over the weekend as to how the pair fares.

is it really worth to spend 900$ for an amp/dac to drive the denon ?

i cant believe that i will find a day/night difference than some amps/dacs that worth 300$ ..

if i have t1 for example or something hard to drive maybe i will think about the ha160ds

but for the denon7000 i think you will not have the upgrade in sound that match the 900$ you just spend

If I already have the amp/dac then yes, it's certainly worth it, as not a dollar comes out of my pocket.

The Burson is part of my nightstand rig, and it's not going anywhere.

The D7000s are going to work with a Nuforce iDo ($250 amp dac ipod transport), which will drive the Denons well.

I said I would post impressions of the combo, like the poster was looking for.

The Burson on the other hand will drive most anything, including my LCD2s so I really don't see what the issue is.

The Burson won't be an ideal match for the Denons with 5.6 ohms output impedance.  Your Fiio E9 is worse, with 10 ohms output impedance.  You'd be best off, in fact, running it directly from the E7, which has an excellent 0.1 ohms output impedance, and will be fully up to the task of driving the very efficient Denon's to ear splitting levels.  If you decide you'd like to upgrade the amp at some point, be certain to find one with very low output impedance to match the 25 ohm Denons.

If you don't know what any of this means, Googling something like 'output Impedance of headphone sources' will get you up to speed.

Got my D7000s tonight and I've not enjoyed audio bliss like this since I first got my B&W N802s. Such rich, full mids and the bass runs shivers down my spine. Zero harshness so far in the highs, just beautiful velvet-like texture. Closed cans with a large soundstage? Are you kidding me? No break-in needed either, these already have a few 100 hours on them.

This is my first pair of high-end cans and I'm just floored, I think Schism by tool just gave me an eargasm. smily_headphones1.gif I bought them used with a Hi-Fi Man EF2, was a package deal, and I like the amp so far, drives the D7000s with ease but I'm going to swap in my E7/E9 combo and see what differences there are. I'm also going to investigate a better amp, I have friend with a Meier Audio Concerto and I'll take these over and see what's what.

New D7000 fan right here. These are truly great cans. cool.gif

Saw the great deal you got in the other thread.  Lucky you!  Welcome to the high-end closed can fan club!

Note that the EF2 is probably not the best match for the very low impedance D7000.  HiFiMan doesn't give a real spec for output impedance, but tube designs tend to have rather high output impedance.  Of the amps you have, the e7 directly is probably the best match.  Enjoy!

What I'm listening to right now is: Digi coax from Xonar D2 > Integra RDC-7.1 > EF2 > D7000s. It's not bad at all, very smooth and dynamic.

Does anybody know the part number for the D7000 driver assembly?

Been seeing all the raving reviews on the Denon AH D7000s and here in Hong Kong saw TWO stores with ridiculous deals on a pair.

My question is that I am not a bass-head and not really looking for bass in my headphones, I listen more to latin jazz, afro-cuban percussion and salsa / big band latin music....with the occasional chart music / classical tunes. Would it be worth getting these headphones otherwise?

I wouldn't call these headphones bassy, really.

They do have bass, but it's in a fairly natural way. They do quite well with acoustic/classical/jazz I think. Is there any way you could try them at one of the stores?

So far, the stores in Hong Kong have not got the D7000s for demo...and I've been to a majority of them. On Headfonia, been told the D5000 were a bit dry on the treble end....but they weren't sure about the D7000s having this issue.

To hear that they are NOT that bassy is pretty good for me...but not for the wallet!

Any other opinions would be helpful!

I dont know if this phone lacks bass or not but listening out of a Lyr the bass it too overwhelming.  Very close to LCD-2 territory but not as tight but getting there.  Mine still rather new like 15-175 hours of play time.  Its been very enjoyable.  Mids and highs are tad better than my HD650 but HD650 wins in soundstage.
