Eddie Current Balancing Act - Page 7

Yeah it does that with the input transformers. You can do:

1. single ended input -> balanced output
2. single ended input -> single ended output
3. balanced input -> balanced output
4. balanced input -> single ended output

Everything!

I only am curious how BA drives HD800 with single ended and balanced.

I hope someone can post the impression soon

I have asked Craig to include the pss on my BA .. something to do with Silver ... i am not on this first run but the next. The one that is beginning in july and is likely to finish late sep or early oct. can't wait

Straight from the Craig man.

"I am picking up the first three BA's Monday. Jack is making the pss outputs, so at least we are moving in a forwardly direction.
Andy let me borrow his Stax headphones. He is getting back into the electrostatic project, and is wrapping the tube hybrid project. The Stax play nice on the ZDT, and I am bringing them to the meet Saturday. "

Now I must wonder what number am I in the 10

My ZDT #3 arrives tomorrow! First thing I wanna do is hook it up to my SRD-7 Pro with K1000 on the speaker outputs of the Stax box, and try my stats and K1000.

I was able to hear the pss transformers a couple of weeks ago...easily the best upgrade you can get on the BA.
Don't think it should even be a choice, but Craig has to give it as an option since it costs a little bit more.
One caveat...this was a AD1 configured BA, not the 307a that most people are getting.
Incredible incredible sound...can't wait for mine!

I know this is the BA thread, but...

My K1000 (#1378 bess-heavy) sound fantastic off the Eddie Current ZDT - the best I have heard them sound to date. I was all ready to sell the K1000 if this amp didn't improve their sound to what I expected (and bring the K1000 closer to the level of my HD800), but it did it in spades.

The missing sparkle in the K1000 that I loved with Naamanf's B22 has now appeared, the vocals are more vivid and rich, macro and micro detail is noticeably improved, soundstage is more solid, and bass is as strong as before but now much better controlled. Plus they play as loud as I would like via the 4-pin XLR jack, when fed via RCA out of my PS Audio Digital Link III. So there is no advantage to using the stock K1000 speaker-terminal pigtail with them, and instead I can use ZDT speaker out for my Stax transformers (will try later this weekend). The PS Audio XLR out > Jensen transformers XLR-to-RCA converter > ZDT has slightly less volume at a given volume knob position, but the amp still has enough gain to drive them well.

None of my small 5-12 watt speaker amps can drive the K1000 as well as the ZDT (Travagans Red, Nuforce Icon, and Qinpu A-3), nor can my Single Power Square Wave XL balanced amp. The Sq Wave can play them loudly, but it cannot extract the same great sound from the K1000 like the ZDT, while Sq Wave XL is very nice with other normal headphones (like balanced HD600/800 or balanced/modded D2000).

My single ended HF-2, and balanced HD600/HD800 also sound quite good with the ZDT as well. The plan was to have the WA6 and GES in the living room rig for stats and dynamics, and the ZDT with Stax Pro transformer in the bedroom rig for stats and dynamics and K1000. But, the ZDT puts off so much heat that it may only be in the bedroom rig during the winter

All I had to do to pay for this was sell my Stax O2 Mk2 and APS re-cabled Edition 9. I have NO regrets at all.

Congratulations!
...and really pleased to hear that you highly enjoy it with the K1000.

I know, I'm just too tired right now - maybe tomorrow.

This thing sure does radiate a lot of heat, wow! I had forgotten how hot Blutarsky's Zana gets.

Thanks for the review Larry. Waiting for the next run of BA's to come off the "Production Line". Have also ordered my BA with the 307A .. have not heard any of the tubes that come as an option. Just going with what everyone else think is good/best (as they are all probably good!). Would be good if it was a possibility to mix n' match though.
