best cans for trace...no budget

i'm looking to get a new headphone for trance and there is no budget. i guess i'm looking to get the best cans period. stock or modified.
i also need a amp to go with the cans.

wow... wow

can you at least attempt to describe what kind of sound you like? any other concerns such as open/closed? will these be used for ANY other type of music?

No, budget, really?

Well, there are some cans that cost you more than 1000 bucks, and that's excluding 1000-ish bucks suitable amps and dacs.

You better tell us the budget range or people will simply pick the one of most expensive and demanding cans.

No budget? Alright, let's have some fun.

My interpretation of trance is something with hard-hitting, clean frequency extremes. Shrill trble or anemic bass would ruin it. These can come somewhat at the expense of a natural midrange, if need be.

I'd go with the Audio Technica ATH-L3000 headphone, first. That can is a lot of fun, and I doubt you'll ever feel like you're missing out.
As to amps, you have quite a few choices. A balanced Beta 22 wouldn't be a bad idea, but I've heard that the L3000 don't benefit much from balancing, so I'd go with a single-ended amp. I think the Luxman P1 would likely be a very tuneful match, and would give you the impact you're looking for.

I assume you know that some headphones sell for 6 plus grand...I'd say a L3000, PS-1 (maybe), AT2000, Sennheiser 800, E9, SA5000. The best doesn't necessarily mean that they will be best for trance.

He has to have a budget, unless he is well off.. Maybe he is one of those that think 500 is tops for headphones.

the modified Denons do real well with electronic music.

I was enjoying some Hernan Cattaneo with my "LA2000" headphones.. Modified D2000

nothing to say he isn't well off (or, rather, more well off than the rest of us gearheads). I'm willing to take the man at his word, and from there it's not too much of a leap to recommend he scour Japanese auctions for out-of-production headphones

the cans i'm looking for will be for trance music (armin, tiesto, ect.) i think closed cans might be better for what i'm looking for.

ok my budget was usd2000 for the last couple of month but i guess i can afford to pay more.

Honestly, you might want to wait a month to see how the HD800 pans out. It may well be a great trance headphone -- it's tough to say at this point. You could get it and a quality amp for around $2200 easy, which is close to budget.
