GAS COMPANY SCAM HELP!

one of those 3rd party gas companies made my dad sign a paper to fix the gas rates, but they told him its just an acknowledgment paper showing that they came to promote this product to his house before.

They probably started ripping us off since march 2007. They called my mum and my mum said NO! Little did we know they started charging us depsite the verbal denial.

Assuming that I can prove my dad is not proficient in English and the contract is in English, is that a valid basis to file a complaint and terminate the contract and make those bastards backpay us?

You need to talk to a Canadian lawyer. Since most of the people who frequent these forums are not Canadians, you probably can't get good legal advice here.

why would you sign a contract without reading it and is your dad really not proficient in English?

My dad was careless on his part and in ontario you have to call or email for confirmation before they can proceed with the contract. What pissed me off is their failure to follow our instructions and proceed with the contract without the necessary authorization.

no comment on that. But, it seems more and more scams these days especially after the economic meltdown. i saw a lot recently in some of the greputable buy&sale corners.

Sadly its quite common these days. That they sign you up even if you clearly say No on the phone.
Another matter is signing a paper you have not read and understood the full content of.
