Can my Straightwire Encore II's be terminated with XLR for balanced setup use?

I have a pair of Straightwire Encore II's RCA interconnects that I absolutely love, but now I am going balanced and they do not makes these interconnects anymore.

I saw on the straightwire website that back in the day you had the option to purchase them in "XLR (balanced termination available)", which leads me to believe that I can just re-terminate my RCA straightwires with XLRs, then they would be balanced. Can someone tell me if I am right in my thinking?

If so, know anyone in Chicago or U.S. that could re-terminate these for me with XLRs. Of' course I understand there is a fee.

Thanks.

Yes. Encore II is a star-quad design and would sound better balanced than single-ended. It's a good cable and worth having re-terminated.

You are absolutely right. I was almost going to put them on sale, when I checked their website and found that they could be re-terminated to balanced. No way I am selling them now.

I have tried many interconnects, and this one is my favorite. Warm but with great detail and highs, and some the the best bass I've heard.

Know anyone I can sent them out to get re-terminated by?

I know that Head-Fier =Germania= has her own cable-making business and has terminated cables for other Head-Fiers. The advantage is that she's also a student at Northwestern. Drop her a PM. If that doesn't work out, start a new thread in the D.I.Y. forum "Need someone to re-terminate, etc."

You should be able to find someone local, but if you can't I'll do them for you. Unfortunately, I'm in Toronto, Canada so exhaust other possibilities first. Good luck.

umm.....that would be like recabling stock apple ipod earbuds to balanced.........LOL, a complete waste (except in that instance the waste would be for wasting the balanced cable vs wasting the hd650....)

adapters can cause distortion, interference, much better off with a straight soldered connection vs a plug and play adapter.

As fsma has said, a hard wired connection is best.

Also the only rca - xlr adapter that I've heard good things about is Cardas, and they run $30.00+ each. I've never tried it myself.
