Headphones/IEMs,ECH/earbuds for biking

Once again, here is another headphone recommendation question.

Currently, I own AKG k81dj headphones, and they are excellent. However, they don't really work well while riding a bike while wearing a helmet and sunglasses. I wear a helmet most of the time, but my being able to wear my sunglasses is pretty important (my optometrist has told me to wear eye protection when it's bright outside, and usually when I bike, it is bright outside)

I've kind of narrowed my list down to the

Denon ah-c551
Sennheiser PMX100
Yuin PK2
Yuin PK3

However, I'm concerned with the Denons b/c they seem kind of big, so they stick out of my ear and potentially create lots of wind noise. Also, being a ECH is kind of unsafe, but b/c of the the "acoustic optimizer system" the isolation isn't too great.

The concern with the senns is that they might not work well with my sunglasses because of the clip...

Yuins are the most expensive of the bunch, (denons are about $50 on amazon, Senns $35, while the pk2 are $79 on head-direct)

I've tried the ksc 75, and unfortunately, they don't fit me too well.

Do you guys have any other suggestions?

Thanks for any responses, and thanks for tolerating yet another "recommend me" thread.

i have been very happy with my ck10 from audio technica... they are however very expensive at 349$ usd to 400$ usd. mine are on sale but that is as im just not listening to them anymore (i sold all my gear).

they are better than the ok2/pk2 as no wind sounds and much much better construction. they are the best and smallest construction i have yet used. i tried my ok2 biking but too much wind and i had to turn them up way too loud to hear anything at all. with foamies, even whilst sweating, the phone will not dislodge from the ear. great phone.

The jvc hafx66b are the smallest iems I have had. They are $26 and have decent sound. Nothing too much. Not too bright not too boomy and they seal on the outside of your ear. They are very topical iems. They do not go in very far at all. Kind of between an iem and an earbud except that they do seal, are comfy and do block out wind fairly well.

alright, thanks for the suggestions! Any others?

Hah, actually, I was talking this over with my dad, and he was saying that when I bike, I should definitely not listen to music, especially since I usually ride on the street. I think I'll just go with the Yuin PK2/PK3 or Denon ah-c551 for when I'm walking around. Any comment on how the cable noise of the Denons while walking?

Also, if i have one of those gift cash card things from Chase, it should work at head-direct, right?

Thanks.

all of those headphones are very microphonic: but if you wrap the cable around your ear (over the top), the denon can be rather silent phones.

Riding a non-stationary bike + earphones = suicide.

I wouldn't ride while listening to music!! I like to hear what's around me, especially for cars that may be coming up from behind. But that is just me, it just isn't safe especially on a fixed gear in the streets of Japan

been listening to music on a bike for a year and half now altho i go on proper bike trails (we have lots of em criss crossing in northern california ) so it is kinda safe..... i wud not recommend goin on regular streets with noise isolating buds tho my biking setup varies tho

UE super fi 5 v2 -> nano3g -> ALO cryo 18awg -> pico or
UE super fi 5 v2 -> iphone 3g
and upcoming is UE super fi 5 v2 -> Sony s639f I use complys foam tips for a good seal.... and ensure that im goin faster than the bike traffic on the trails hehehe so no chance anyone sneaking up behind me unoticed :P :P

post #11 of 12
hehe yeah... most of the time im on 22ish mile rides.... unamped sounds ok for short commutes (to work or so) ... also the pico and nano 3g combo is slightly thicker than an iphone in a case but miles apart in SQ ....

I just bought used stationary bike, and I needed a great headphone that I can use during the exercise. My brother gave me the jvc hafx66b and I love it.
