Buzzing in one channel of darkvoice 336

Hello

I've got a darkvoice 336 with stock tubes that I bought new 3 months or so ago.

Recently I've noticed the transformer giving off a slight humming sound, and there's a humming in one channel on the amp that remains the same regardless of input or volume. I have a multimeter, a soldering iron, a screwdriver and a steady hand. What I don't have is a clue as to what the problem could be!

I'm currently goign through the process of getting some new tubes so I can discount them as the problem (although I would have thought the buzzing would change with volume if it were a dying tube, or am I wrong?) and I'm also interested in doing fitz's hum mod, although I'm at a loss as to what would be a decent type/brand/model capacitor to use, I looked at the price of 100uf caps aimed at the audio market - winced - then closed the page

any recommendations welcome!

Tim

switch the tubes round. if it follows the switch you know its a tube.

Nichicon Muse series (KZ or ES) is what I use on all the Darkvoices I've modded, you can get a pair of them for around a dollar...

I don't think i can switch the tubes round on the darkvoice, there's only 2 one power and one output?

cheers fitz, hoping you would reply

EDIT: I'm also wanting to change the volume pot to an alps blue beauty,am i right in thinking I'll want a 10k log?
also if anyone can recommend a suitable power tube from http://www.hificollective.co.uk/valvehome.html that would be swell! I'm looking for a clean sound, with lots of clarity and seperation for use with my HD650's

thanks

ah reet, nah as the amps so new I have barely thought about rolling as I presumed the ones I have are only just about burnt in (probably had 40 hours use)

I am buying another pair of tubes as if I'm going to be opening it up I may as well do the cap mod and may aswell change the pot for a half decent one - so i may aswell get new tubes aswell

Right, couldn't find any nichicon muse in the UK, and I want to get this all done asap as i want my amp back

so my bits to be added so far are
elna silca II 100uf 100v caps
EH 6SN7GT driver tube (real appeal to me is that these are all new)
Alps 100k log blue beauty pot

also got some silver wire left over from a previous bit of work and some mundorf silver solder, so that's what the pot will be wired up with

And I found a chap with 40 tung-sol 5998 tubes (40! :wow: ) so i've asked to buy one off him, but he's yet to reply

Can't wait for all my bits to turn up, will post WiP photos
