Silver (Ag) vs Copper (Cu) for an interconnect - Page 3

The connectors are very important too, and can change the sound, even with the same cable.

I plugged in a set of solid silver braided RCA. Damn, the lazy and silky sound is gone with my MIT cable (i assume it is made of copper). As someone wisely said here, none is better, it is all the matter of taste. The silver gave me details and (very high) speed. Could be the last silver I will purchase for my current setup. I think the silver will do a splendid job in systems that are too laid back, and for guys who love details and speed, for rock music etc. For lounge music and sentimental tunes, silver just sound odd.

I listen to aggressive music almost just as much as laid back. Maybe I should still go copper.

Just made some silver ICs and I'm happy, will try OFC later.

Just because its aggresive music doesnt mean you want it to sound un-natural right?

Not always, some people do experiment with cables and still come to the conclusion that they are not audibly different (and I am not referring to my ongoing experiments) , not just here but on many other audio fora such as the rec.audio hierarchy. In the audio profession John Dunlavy is a good read on cables.

I am sorry I do not understand this. What precise chemical properties ? What EM wavelength interaction ? Measured how ? and what empirical evidence for this colouring due to material ? You seem to be making some quite specific scientific claims, I would certainly be interested to read the supporting evidence.

Of course. Why, would silver do that?

Yup. I don't really understand the attraction to silver cables but yes they usually sound very strident and un-natural to me.

and you seem to be VERY vocal on the matter. I myself find that in a system with good synergy silver does not sound in any way unnatural. piccolino or combo of copper on signal and silver on return has brought the best results for me. silver when used thoughtfully sounds wonderful; but used inappropriately it can sound altogether too edgy YMMV
