Audio Technica ATH-AD700 Magnesium? or Plastic?

First Post Here.

So I feel like I must get a pair of decent headphones. It has been a purchase that I have put off for a while, I was thinking the ATH-AD700 because I have been listening to classical music more, and Gaming is important to me (footsteps and directionality, not explosions), and comfort! Maybe even get a Zero DAC/AMP if i notice weird computer signal noise/interference coming out of my crappy headphone jack.

I am kind of split between the ATH-AD700 and A700. They are both within my price range. Ithink the A700 will isolate noise better while the AD700 might sound better for the music I am listening to...

Hmm... off topic already.

In any case, Is the body (not the mesh cups over the earpieces) of the headphones magnesium or plastic?

The following links seem to suggest plastic:

Audio Technica:*ATH-AD700

The following suggest magnism?

Audio-Technica ATH-AD700 Open-air Dynamic Headphone - eBay (item 350148927847 end time Feb-03-09 08:06:08 PST)

Whats going on here? Were there different revisions? Are some of the people just idiots? Did some people buy knockoffs?

Welcome to Head-Fi. Well, the body of the AD700 (pretty much everything beige-colored) is definitely plastic. Decent plastic, but plastic nonetheless.

The AD700 is mostly plastic, body and all. Those thinking it's magnesium are probably confusing it with the AD900 and up which all seem to share a similar magnesium frame/aluminum mesh from what I understand.

There are metal components though, like the mesh and the hoops over the top.

They've got a magnesium frame with aluminium casing & some minor plastic bodywork. The plastics - except for the wings - are only cosmetic.

Checked their site..??

On the last picture, notice the magnesium frame inside the headband.

Unless you absolutely need some degree of isolation, I'd get the AD700 over the A700.
