thanks guys. that's approaching HD800 territory, so that's what i think it should be compared to. but then again, it's closed, so a comparison with the ED9 and D7000 would perhaps be more appropriate.

I agree, Shahrose. Personally, I'd love to do a long comparo of the LA2000 vs ALO recabled UE9, as they're known for their bass response and both are closed. But having heard the LA2000 in person, I strongly suspect pitting the LA2000 vs the HD800 will be a fair dog fight - despite being closed, they sounded impressively 'open' and had that touch of 'airiness' to the sound. A great aural illusion...

HD800 - Rest assured that thought has already been thunk - and not just by me I'm sure - my pre-order is in.

I would love to have compared to Ed 9s but that would have cost me a ticket to (and a wait for) CanJam '09 and unfortunately I can't spare the vacation.

MarkL compares his cans with the stock Denons on his site. Again, had it been easy to arrange a comparative audition I would have but I took the leap of faith that a custom modder whose philosophy I completely bought into could create a better product than a volume manufacturer with pricepoints, dealer margins, advertizing costs etc to worry about. I mean just look at the packaging for the AH-D7000, how much do you think that costs? I am happy to say that I feel my leap of faith was justified in this instance.

I sense a Swedish head-fi meet approaching at struts's place in Stockholm in march when HD800 are done cooking

You know, if it meant I could finally get to audition all the 'phones I am dying to hear: Ed 9s, D7000s, R10s, Qualias, L3000s etc. (not to mention all the headphone amps) that wouldn't be a bad idea!

Wow, I wonder where a deal like that could be found. Ive looked today and not seen anything that good, even eBay (at present).

Just remembered that Mark sent me a couple of pictures of them before he shipped them which is great because it saves me the hassle of trying to find the sync cord for my strobe:

Hmm...

Was it desired to have some of the pink Jena cable showing, or is that how MarkL does the sheathing? Personally I would want to avoid having a lot of (or really any) pink flashing around.

Looks great other than that. I've been contemplating when and how I can get my hands on a D2000 and the cash to have it modded, but I think it's going to be a while.

I took the optional (at extra cost) sheathing to hide as much of the Jena as possible, but unfortunately that does not include the individual L and R forks above the split. The standard is the powder-puff pink, butt-naked Jena.

Oh no, not in Stockholm... :>

We Swedes should have a headphone exchange program or something
It seems there is a very limited interest in headphones here...

Actually, the more I think about it the more I like the idea, but I wonder if you're right, martook?

The upcoming Sheraton Show might be a good opportunity to meet up and depending on the level of support we might even be able to organize a small canjam..

I'll start a separate thread if I can work out where to put it...
