Tape mod on SR225's and MS2I's - not to adventurous.

I do not know if there is any phone that benefits more from a cable swap than the Sennheiser HD-25-1 I/II. The stock steel cable, while great for transportability, has a detrimental effect with respect to high fidelity. I swapped that cable out for a Headphile BlackSilver that increased the detail considerably and extended the frequency range in both directions. I will probably have it modded again by APS since the BlackSilver cable has proven to be more fragile than I would prefer for portable applications. (The BlackSilver is definitely fine for home duty.)

EDIT: Through my own insistence on employing the BlackSilver cable for portable applications, I damaged it and sent it back to Larry at Headphile for repair. I used that opportunity to upgrade it to his BlackGold cable, which adds more low end body to the HD25-1's bass to combine with the clear mids and sweet treble on top.
I'll probably add a Senn HD650 to my stable and use the BlackGold with it. I already picked up the Senn HD650 cable for the HD25-1. I want to add a moderate priced IEM as a portable, which will be refined with an APS Portable cable when those are ready. My AKG K81 is also waiting for an APS Portable cable upgrade.

ATH-W5000 mod to Fitz F5005 had the biggest improvement (in bass) but only made sense for me when I also did the phat pad mod which resurrected the soundstage.

I also did the kramer mod on my KSC75 and there were improvements.

I know that this only asks for one or two, but I will list a few more in order of biggest difference over the stock version.

1 - Sony MDR-CD1000 *Description of mod is HERE*

2 - Altec Lansing im716 Depodding *using 32ohm or 47 ohm metal film resistors*

3 - Audio Technica ESW9 *Description of the Mod here*

4 - Audio Technica ES7 *Blu Tak + cotton stuffing*

I don't consider recables to be "Mods" - it is a cable.

Most of my headphones are modded (mainly re-cabled) but, of them all, the AKG K340 are the most heavily modded (thanks to KT88's very useful guide).

So in direct answer to the OP:

1. AKG K340

2 & 3.
- 24AWG SPC twisted-pairs wires sleeved in black multi-filament nylon & terminated with my preferred Jaycar gold-plated TRS plug
- 24AWG solid silver jumper wires
- New cotton stuffing
- New elastics (hairbands)
- Modded grilles (Pantyhose)

4. I lack the flowery vocabulary to explain it all. Suffice to say there is something in the sound that just makes the sound flow more coherently, allowing the music to be better enjoyed without causing much ear fatigue. The K340 is on my head for very long periods compared to the others.

I would also add that Senns benefit the most from re-cabling (based on my experience with the HD-25-1/-580/-600/-650), though I do not personally regard the simple swapping of cables as a mod. The K601 is also a worthwhile candidate to mention as re-cabling seemed to help with its otherwise lacking bass impact.

Cheers!

1. JVC HA-RX900

2. screwdriver lol

3. TopPop mod here: http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f4/jvc...-about-381303/

4. Only did the felt removal though, didn't add dynamat or acoustic stuffing. mids-highs became much clearer, slight increase in soundstage as well.

1. Removed the felt on RX700
2. Install KSC75 into Sony MDR-V600 housing
Was going to try adding stuffing to RX700, but I like the sound by just removing the felt so it's saving me time and energy

1) added dampening to my DT770 cups to kill plastic resonances :

2) "angling drivers mod", I strongly urge to try it on any phone

take some high density foam, cut 2 slightly "V" shaped pieces, stick them at the back of your phones between the pad and the phone :

mark the curved piece to cut w/ a pen, then take them off and cut them accordingly.

you should end up w/ this(blurry, sorry) :

and that's how it looks in the end :

this gives a cd3k-like soundstage, the sound comes from the front now! not from the left/right sides anymore...I guess if Audio Technica/Sony/AKG do it on their top end models, they're a very good reason

this is great for music, singers are not "in" your head anymore...they're actually in front of you

I've also added some very thin and super comfy "felt" on top of the original foam 'coz I couldn't stand having it touching my ears...it actually increased the bass response and made the trebles more natural.

3) use Piccolo's fantastic tutorial to kill the remaining cup/outer ear resonances :
http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f4/how...torial-413900/

this matches your body response against what you're hearing and provides a very natural sound.

Grado SR-80: chamber stretching and foam filling. Used a bit superglue to keep the parts together. Much more neutral sound. Not sure if the mod is needed with SR-80i
K240M - improved driver damping - just blocked two small holes with a sticky tape.

Yamaha YH-100 and all resulting variants (lol, basically everyone in the ortho thread that has any orthodynamic will mod their headphones)

Koss KSC-75

Modded: Beyerdynamic Dt770 Pro

With: Cotton felt-ish sheet

How: More cotton rings around driver (comes standard with 1 ring I am using 3 rings)

Then: Excess bass is removed... Now warm sounding and enhanced details. Liking it very very much!

Sennheiser HD555
http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f4/hd555-h595-mod-227697/

Removed the inner plastic grill. Super glued piece of black nylon behind the driver to keep dust out. Colored the driver basket black with a marker, was clear in color before.

Bigger sound stage but there was some bass loss from what I remember. Maybe sounding a little bit cleaner/clearer.
