Sleek Customs Fit-Issues/Wearing

I got my Sleek Customs today. They look very nice, but not all is well as I'm having fit issues

1. The earcanal of the earpiece feels as if it's digging into my ear drum. I picked the medium earcanal, perhaps I should've picked the short one? But in any case, the earcanal doesn't exceed the length of the canal on the impressions should it?

2. When I do have the Customs in, the isolation is probably 40%. I have to press them against my head to have a noticeable difference in isolation (probably about 90%).

I'm wearing them like I do the SA6s. Slide them in, roll them around. I even pull on my ear to get the canal to straighten a bit to no avail.

I'm going to take a stab and guess I'm going to have to send these guys back in and wait another month

If it is digging into your eardrum you would be causing yourself massive damage. What is the length of the earpiece? IIRC the distance of the eardrum through the ear canal is about 2.5cm (?).

My audiologist said I have a short ear canal, but I assumed that the medium ear canal length on the earpiece would be derived from the total length on the impressions. e.g. 65% of total ear canal length. Hopefully that's the case and not just medium ear canal length in general.

It feels like it's digging in during certain positions. But I've stopped trying to get them to fit for now. I think I caused myself a headache, lol.

The base of the ear canal tube to the end is approx. 1.3cm. I wish I could compare with my impressions, but Sleek never sent them back.

If your raw impressions fit properly, you may want to ask Sleek to redo your customs as they still have your impressions.

I shot off an email earlier to Bill (who did my Customs) and dang, consistently very prompt replies.

Bernie,

The canal length is actually shorter than it was on the impressions I am sure it is not touching your eardrum but I am equally as sure that any problem with the fit can make it feel that way since your not used to having anything hard like that in your ear.

That being said it is also possible that it can take some getting used to as well.

When you are putting the customs into your ear it may help to place the canal portion into your ear and rotate the unit backwards almost like you are screwing it into your ear.

If they cause you pain when you think you have them in correctly without pressing on them we will need to adjust the fit slightly in order to relieve the pressure on your ear while still keeping a seal.

The sound isolation should be at least as good as it is with the universal fit SA6. The best indicator of weather or not you are getting a good seal is the bass. As with the SA6 you will not get enough bass if you do not have a good seal. It should not be necessary to press on them in order to get a good seal.

Don't over do it. Your ears are sensitive and will get rubbed raw if your putting them in and out with a spot that I need to adjust.

I will take a look at your impressions tomorrow when I get to work and see if I can tell what may be giving you the discomfort.

I can give you my direct phone number but the 800 number dose not ring in the new building at this time so if you would rather I call you please let me know.

I'm a bit jet lagged so please forgive me if I am not answering all your questions.

Bill
So it's good to know that the canal on the pieces are infact shorter than my impressions.
