[Opinions] The majority of teens and Skullcandy? - Page 6

As mentioned several times, it's due to exposure. Their products are everywhere, and mostly affordable. While it's not saying much, they are actually an "upgrade" to the Apple earphones that come with iPods and iPhones. It has boomy bass which goes well with the hip-hop loving crowd.

I actually owned a pair of the "Full Metal Jacket" iem's (before learning about head-fi) - I wasn't looking for gobs of bass or some trendy styling, I actually bought it due to the life-time warranty and the notion that metal=durable. After the 3rd set wearing down in 3 weeks, I started researching and stumbled across head-fi.

Don't hate too much on its styling, as fashion is subjective (obvious statement is obvious!). I am 27, and while I prefer subtle styling, I didn't mind the skullcandy products' design.

Oh and LOL, my snowboarding helmet (Smith Variant Brim) has the "built-in" Skull Candy speakers. It's just as bad as listening to Apple earphones, but at least I don't have to deal with it falling off. Before the next winter season kicks in, I'll most likely open it up and replace the drivers.

Teens arent going to go online and look at the best sounding headphones. We dont care about frequency response and how bright the highs are. We arent going to bother going online to order a pair of headphones to go with our ipods..

They have the best marketing too. In every store that sells some kind of electronic you will see skullcandy. So we go for them because they are easy to access. I personally dont like ordering things online because I dont want to wait. We dont want to wait 3 to 4 days for an expensive headphone that we will probably loose in a few years.

The truth is, they work. Skullcandy headphones move sound from our ipods to our ears. nuff said. We dont have the money for expensive IEMS or fancy rig set-ups, nor do we care..

The reason you're on Head-Fi is?...

The same reason you are.. we both dont find iBuds good enough for our tastes.. we like to enjoy every beat and twang of a guitar as best as possible.. we even go as far to bypass our equipment with external amps because we dont find them good enough.. I came here to start getting into better quality. I just ordered a Fiio E5 and Senn PX200. gotta start somewhere right? I know you werent born with a Cowon in one hand and a amp in the other with HD 25's around your head.. you came here looking for headphones just like all of us. What gives you the right to question why I am here?

Without Skullcandy, Monster and Bose and whatever else is known to the commercialized public everyone but us would be wearing stock buds. Variety breeds interest. I think we should be thankful. (... wink.gif)

I have to admit, I gave into the skull candy craze. The muddy and overexaggerated bass was the bomb to me. Soon enough the bass in my left channel became siblant (back than I didn't pay mind to it) but I rocked it like I was hot... Looking back on those days, I would laugh. I didn't know what I was listening to. Garbage? or... Tin Cans filled with plastic garbage? I think a little bit of both...

Don't get offended by my statement. I felt you were saying the Skullcandies were of a higher quality than what every self respecting Head-Fi'er regards them as: crap. And I actually did start out with crappy headphones; my first $100 'phone purchase was a pair of *sigh* Bose IE. Again, I'm sorry if you interpreted what I said as an insult, don't take it that way. I would like to think HF is a friendly community, not a hostile one *cough* PC Gamer *cough* smily_headphones1.gif

I do have to agree with you there. The reason why I got my skull candies (I think they were the Ink'd kind. I don't remember since I try to forget so much) was because I needed to study and the only thing decent that was cheap in the school book store was the skull candies. So I bought them. I thought they were good enough. True, the music bled through the buds like crazy, noise isolation was crap; however, it worked. I soon found out about Head-fi. I picked up a pair of TF10s and ran with them (I had my Klipsch S4s between the skull candies and my TF10s but I was naive to CNET's review). The TF10s sounded blissful to my ears. It was only then that i realized what I was missing.

Most people who put on a new pair of IEMs couldn't tell the difference between SE535s and skullcandies. So why spend the money on a pair of $400 pair of headphones when you can spend $20 dollars on a pair of headphones that will sound about the same. No difference is not worth the $380 difference... So like he said, he is on here to find out about better quality equipment, like most of us and some of the community has enough experience with these IEMs to tell the story.
