Speaking of Mullards, I'm going to put in a quad of NOS Mullard EL-34s in my Leben CS600. Right now, I'm using Genalex Gold Lion KT-77 reissues, which are excellent tubes, with a bit more frequency extension and balance than the EL-34s, but the Mullards will not only add that famous midrange magic, but also that hallucinatory out-of-the-head imaging. Should be aural LSD with the HD800.

Pico with high gain, usually.

I have my Grace m902 as well.

But I will probably stop putting it off, and finish building my Balanced Gilmore Dynalo (mid).

wel I think the perfect companion for the HD800 would be the triad headcode or valvecode

There is only one way to amp HD800, that is full balanced all the way!!!

I believe it will be easier to drive than the HD650
Don't know why, but just my thought.

Haven't heard it. Don't plan to hear it unless it's plugged into a good source and either a balanced B22 or GS-X.

ummmmm but the HD800 arent balanced; until someone makes an aftermarket balanced cable to fit them

Good question

Until I get them in-hand, I will use what I currently have on hand : LE DA10 However, I am researching: Woo, Meier, RSA, etc., etc., (tubes or SS); not sure.

As I posted, the Cary Xciter looks very interesting. Cannot wait to listen to it.

I plan on amping it with an Akido-based tube amp that a friend is building for me, plus my current CIA VHP-2.

And it had damn well better like those amps!!

I am very confident my Zana Deux will play well with the HD800

That's correct that the HD800 does not come balanced as standard from the start. But the OP question is how would we amp the HD800, so my answer to that question is fully balanced!!!

So in order to go balanced is DIY or wait for aftermarket cable...

The valvecode intrigues me b/c it allows you to either go OTL or transformer output... that's like getting 2 amps in 1 chassis. Would love to hear the HD800 with it!

There is no need for an after-market cable to make them balanced. All one needs to do is re-terminate it (assuming there are 4 wires at the jack).

indeed, the Zana Deux should amp anything!
