There are 4-conductors in that stock cable. Just chop off the 1/4" plug and reterminate and you're in business.

I hope to have my Zana Deux before the HD800s come in and then will amp it with that. I will probably have some time to get used to it with the HD650s that i already have but only time will tell if the Zana comes in first and how much before either the HD800s are released or that i can afford them. Crossing my fingers for some extra work to pull it off around release date.

The source is from EMM Labs/Meitner... definitely regarded as one of the industry leaders. Ed Meitner played a crucial role in the SACD development in the early years, so he knows what he's doing.

The HD800 is running off of Benchmark DAC/headphone amp. Many people like it, but personally, it's not my thing... if HD800s are as phenomenal as advertised by many reputable audio reviewers and head-fi members, they definitely would benefit from better amping. Benchmark, to me, always sounded a bit too clinical.

Agreed about the Benchmark - Stereophile loved that DAC when it came out - I always wondered why

Since my headphone budget is shot (I would have to sell some gear to get the HD-800), I would have to settle for plugging them into my Singlepower.

I absolutely love my recabled 650's so I can only imagine how the better soundstaging sounds with the 800's...OH THE WAITING GAME!

When I get mine (is it February yet?), I'm going to plug it right into my Raptor, which is my favorite amp I've had with my HD 650's. I just fired up a 1958 Mullard long plate. I can only imagine how the midrange on the HD800 is going to sing. I hate waiting.

I'd power it with the same amp I'd use for any headphone - SinglePower Supra SE with the 400v option selected.

Using the DAC1 PRE
It sure got a strong amp, and I think it won't have problem with amping the HD800 if it can handle with out a problem the HD650.
