My First Look at the Sennheiser HD800 - Page 9

Eventually I would like to pick up a HD800, but probably in the April timeframe after I get my big tax refund.
This is often due to inane government regulation and not a choice of the business at all.

Amazon actually bucked this trend and would rather continue offering free shipping in certain European countries. They get fined for it by the government, but Amazon actually makes more money from offering the free shipping than they lose from the fines, so they keep doing it. Not every business is quite as enormous or deep-pocketed as Amazon, though.

According to last word from Al Zang at Sennheiser as of Friday afternoon 1/16/09, the expected HD800 availability from Senn corporate is now first week of March. ... However, we're keeping our fingers crossed for sooner delivery. In either event, HR is expected to be allotted the very first batch of HD800s into North America.

Great, thanks for the update Jorge! Too bad about the moved shipping date, but either way, can't wait =)

Just as with the current HD650, we will likely have two solutions for balanced cables for he HD800.

I have contacted Sennheiser and am working on purchasing just the cable as soon as I can. We believe this cable will have the proper four conductors to be cut and have the XLR connectors installed for balanced mode in our amps.

We are also persuing the proper connectors to fabricate cables using our Cardas Fat Pipe cable.

Mmm ... well see what happens when it does.

My understanding is that the honorable Dr. Gilmore himself, using proprietary optical techniques, has measured the Sennheiser connectors, and exhaustively matched a Lemo, and possibly a generic (if third party sources are correct) for the connector.

Answer may be found in the DIY portion of the community, as I understand it.

Beads of sweat gently glistened on the foreheads of cable makers the world over as they leaned into their computer monitor expectantly.

Man, I chose a BAD time to stop by the forum again. Hopefully the wife missed the big charge coming on the credit card from HeadRoom! Hopefully I'm high on the list and get it quickly. I love the Sennheiser sound, and have wanted a great high-end set of dynamic cans for a while now, and these sound like just the ticket for what I'm looking for.

Wow! Good for you, Doug! You deserve it, and I know that your wife would understand. She's much too nice to give you any grief over something like this.

This is too funny! I was joking earlier in the thread about how he would be able to sleuth out the truth about those connectors! Little did I know, he was actually doing it.

I'll be buying a pair of closed cans and I'm planning on the D-7000's. I think I'll be going there before considering the HD 800's.

The D7000 were very nice, and a good deal if you can get them for $600-700. I suspect they will be even better with a new cable to extend the highs. My woodied re-cabled D2000 are already on that level, but that didn't stop me from having to buy the HD800

Any hints at all about pricing on those extra cables, or if they will happen along when the phones do? A bit surprising Sennheiser didn't think to offer dual XLR cable as an option... good thing _someone_ gave the good Doctor some data to examine. ;-)

Good grief, man, it was a completely remote, non-invasive, unpresent process. (A little Engrish there.)

My information is sketchy, but the instrument made a meta-physical, quantum uncertain, objectively relative, data-rich non-observation.

It was hard for me to follow along, but the briefcase it was in was fairly small.

Hi, Kev.
