People will still buy it... I'm glad Sennheiser decided to invest in new technology for their flagship headphone. The HE 90 and HD 600 were also cutting edge in their time. I wonder if this will cause other manufacturers to step up their game? The angled drivers were featured in the HD 595's, if I recall correctly.

The HD-800's design looks like something the Robot Maria in Fritz Lang's Metropolis (1927)would wear .

Thanks Jude. Some real excitement for Head-Fi'ers to chew on. $1400 ain't bad if it beats the GS1000. We'll have to have a comparison.

I was excited when I saw this, but the price tag quenched my enthusiasm pretty quickly. I could buy a brand new O2 for that much! I think I'll stick with my STAX setup...

I've always had qualms about the 650s build quality - these look lovely! - the silver somehow makes it look triport-ish.

But damn it! - just when I got my 650s, these babies show up!

Looks more to me like an uglier SA5000.

Not to say that I'm not interested in how it sounds.

That resembles the SA5000 in more than one way. Just look at that plug even...

All in all looks like it belongs in Star Wars. (Ep IV and up of course )

Well snot. I thought I was through buying phones for awhile.

Wonder how long til the street price stabilizes - or if it will at all (unlikely if it is a limited edition).

I'll be going to listen to the phones tomorrow with Jude. 2nd opinions are always worth there weight in gold. Just in case Jude's Golden ears are broken.

I'm also taking wire, soldering iron and connectors so there will be a replacement cable by tomorrow night Just kidding, had to throw that in......

Cant wait.......
