That is the point of what I was saying. If you had all those phones for different preferences and the HD800s end up being the best at everything, you could consolidate your investment into one headphone, be up to date on the latest greatest, and it wouldn't cost as much as it appears at first. I'm not saying it will be. I'm just trying to show people that $1400 can be harvested from current gear without too much effort.

Gear mentioned in this thread:

I haven't read all the 35 pages, but am I the first to say: it's ugly as sin?

I'm sure it sounds great and all though :]

It has been noted by numerous people, including me.

Never mind the bollocks, if it sounds like it seems, looks have nothing to do with it.

is there somebody can provide a picture of the case of hd800?
is it a limited edition?i am confused about the edition of hd800

Good question. It would be great to know if it is going to be limited?
I see something that looks like a production number on the headband pictures.

SO NICE

From how it looks, it's going to be a regular unit. Not some limited edition stuff.

How can you tell? Could you also, from the looks, see that the Ultrasone Ed9 was limited? Grado PS1? What's the difference in looks from a limited edition and a regular?

Good choice for your first post. I guess it is a bit late to say welcome though

i think it looks great. different from the current (also very aesthetically appealing) HD6X0 line in design but the quality of materials and solid build quality make it very attractive.

I don't belief it before I had heared all self
Marketing and trueness are different worlds

How long is the lifespan (driver diaphragm) of this headphone and others?

IMHO Sennheiser use a synthetic material for the driver diaphragm
AKG use synthetic material too - for the K701, K702 composite material
Denon use a Microfiber (what's this? Cellulose, synthetic material?) driver diaphragm in D7000 (makes Denon the drivers self?)
IMHO Grado use cellulose (?)

Ultrasone ED9 was never limited. It just got discontinued. Sennheiser is basically doing what Ultrasone did with the ED9.

Handmade in Germany, produce it, discontinue it when the hype/demand dies down.

The case is shown here (German Heritage -> Manufactory video):

I have to agree with this. While $1400 is indeed a steep price to pay, there have been more expensive cans in the past. I think the price strikes a good balance between high-end and insane.
