Indeed, but a source I'm intimately familiar with. The Full Monty review will be on other gear, of course, with much longer listens, but they were damn good as anything I've ever heard on first blush.

Of course, we'll be fabbing up some balanced cables and listening on our Wadia and some skunkworks stuff, and measuring them soon ... I can't wait.

I meant that the $1400 launch price tag will (hopefully) drop $400 to $500 dollars. So $1400 - $400 = $1000, for example. Make sense now?

And just for giggles I figured I would mention that the GS-1000s retail for $995 (if memory serves), but I have seen them sell for $650ish on Audiogon in like new condition (albeit rare that they go that low).

Also, the Denon D7000s retail at $999, but I have seen them sell for $599 from reputable dealers. So.... yeah.

Would be exciting - compairing AKG K701 vs. Denon AH-D7000 vs. Sennheiser HD800

I thinking about to buy a Denon AH-D7000 (I have one for 3 weeks for test here at home, my great thanks to Denon Austria). I compared it with my K701 / K702 (K702 - another test sample I have, my great thanks to AKG Vienna). I need a second but closed headphone too.
Importing a AH-W5000 to Europe is me a bit to heavy and insecure (whats about a warranty?) and I can't hear it before buy. In this price-range I will hear extensive before I buy!

Somehow I get the feeling that the d7k and k701s are toys compared to the new senn... Why do I get the feeling that these are really something special.

i never said it would "follow the trend of what the 600s did". I simply expect them to be manufactured at a reasonable level and quickly outpace demand at 1400 dollars.

For those who complain HD800 is too much a price jump over HD650, I speculate HD800 is NOT an upgrade of HD650, rather a new line for statement headphones from Senn.

I wouldn't be surprised a few months later Senn announce the true HD650 successor, trickle down from HD800 technology, as HD700, then HD750,... And they priced accordingly around $500.

I agree. Or they might release the update of the 650 as the much-talked about 680 in a few months. The only way to tell is if the supply of 650s dwindles. That would be up to all of the vendors to tell us, though.

Everyone needs to look at this more objectively. Most people end up spending on headphones to own each one - a pair of senns, beyers, grados, akgs, denons, and before you know it you're way over the projected street price of maybe $900-1000 for these senns which will be one headphone to rule them all. Their technology from all accounts is beyond anything currently out, and from the initial review where the reviewer spoke only in superlatives I can assume these will be worth the cash. I will need to have a yard sale for these to happen.
