I assume with a SPL meter ?

More importantly why bother to create a headphone that can reproduce those frequencies when I've heard that a CD can only store between 20 Hz - 20 kHz.

The HE90 was rated up to 100khz. The Qualia 010 and TakeT H2 similarly so. Theres also some odd wordings and dubious claims in among the marketing schpiel.

They can measure it because microphones can measure that high. And Ultrasonics while not directly audible to make a difference in the perception of the sound being reproduced if the transducer is capable of the output.

My wallet is playing hide-and-seek with me today for some reason.

With that sensitivity rating it seems that they are going to need a powerfull amp. So you better start saving for a Beta22 too

My dog was reading this, and he just ran away from home...

If these things sound anywhere close to how they look and basing this on the quality of sound from all my Senns now....I'm all in and I fold....game over.....I'll be done.

Please come with a silk lined case, though.

Are we not allowed to criticize sponsors when they announce a new product?

Are we required to limit our speculation to positive aspects?

No!

Yes!

Geez, I wish they didn't look the way they do. Something a bit more Euro or cleaner, rather than postmodern every-shape-known-to-man-thrown-together.

Is it just me, or do they look like old Pontiac side cladding? Or the Aztec?

Yet they may well end up on my head. They can't look worse in person than the K701.

I was thinking the same thing...

Glad to see you add the dynamic K1000 to the fold

Frequency ranges don't top out at 20kHz for SACD, vinyl and other hi-rez formats. Not that you can hear them, but extended frequency response usually means that everything in between is easier to drive. One way to think about it is if you had a car with a maximum speed of 55 MPH and one that can go 100MPH. Both can go 55MPH, but the car limited to 55MPH will be struggling at that speed while the other one won't. Not the best analogy, but that's sort of how it works.

I like what I've heard so far about the HD-800. Though I think I might hold off for CanJam 2009 where I can hopefully borrow a pair for a bit and plug them into my rig.

I was at the Macworld Expo and I visited the Sennheiser booth. One of the representatives (I forgot the name, and if you're reading this, sorry ) was talking about an announcement, of which I thought is going to be the successor to the HD-650, so this is a very pleasant confirmation. I got to demo the IE 8 and I thought it was wonderful, although my in-ear phone experience is limited. I'm tempted to buy the new HD-800, but I'm still enjoying my current ones immensely.

Actually, that was a great analogy UncleErik

... Was anyone else kind of shaken up by this thread? I know it should be a good thing, but I am perfectly happy with the headphones I have and after hearing almost all of the phones in existance, I didn't desire or want anything else.

After this, I am already wondering if I have to shake my system up again and having thoughts of which headphone to sell if it is the breakthrough Senn that I was hoping for... just wondering

It's true that many HP manufacturers claim similar frequency response, but I'm not sure any have specified such a broad range with +/- 3db points. This means there should be almost no discernible fluctuation over the entire audible range, and that, brothahs and sistahs, is pheeenomenal!
