I miss my "Plastic, Fantastic Lover" - Jefferson Airplane

"Super-sealed lady, chrome-color clothes
You wear 'cause you have no other
But I suppose no one knows
You're my plastic fantastic lover"

How appropriate is that??^^ Little did they know.

I used to see Grace all the time in Malibu when I lived out there and talked to her on serveral occasions.

Awesome d. You ever get to party with her? She was kind of a hottie back in the day.
Not really a hottie any more, never partied with her, don't think she parties anymore. Didn't talk about the music, just around town friendly chat a few times. The famous people don't like going into it much they are just people and want to live. I have known quite a few because of being brought up in that area and knowing their kids or just being in the nieghborhood.

Edit-sorry off topic-killin time until I get a shipping notice for the 800s I guess.

First you mention Ben Vereen. Then you mention Grace's former hotness. Fido2, man, you're making me feel real young right now.

Here's a thought. Which rig would sound better?

a. DAC1 -> Singlepower Extreme (or other highly respected amp) -> HD650/K701 (or similar)

b. ipod -> HD800

b is much cheaper!

I think you'll find the HD 800, at 300 Ohms, won't like an iPod direct.

But Sceptre tested the HD 800 with an iPod (or equivalent) running from a Graham Slee Voyager at the Bristol Hi-Fi show and was happy with how it worked (see Sceptre's earlier post).

So, add the Voyager to your (b) option and make your choice between your two options that way.

Well I'm sure it doesn't like the ipod as much as a nice amp, and I'm sure it sounds better with an amp.

I'm just wondering if it would still sound better than a. (great source, great amp, midrange $ cans)

I just had the idea of someone who didn't think they could afford an HD800, selling off their existing rig, and just going ampless with it hardcore! I know for me, the phones are usually the most important part of the equation. Not saying an amp doesn't matter, don't worry

rhythmdevils, I did try the HD800 directly out of my iPod Classic 160, and that is a sort of Head-Fi sacrilege goin' on right there. Yes, it can drive the HD 800, and, if you forgot your good portable amp (and, for whatever reason that day, you made your HD800 your on-the-go choice), it would certainly still be good; but then the crime would be fully realized when you hear it properly amped.

Given the choices, I'd take option A but thankfully I have more choices.
I like John Willet's perspective though, reminds me of my approach to Q & A in University...never thought they asked the corrcect question or gave the correct answer.

Killin' time on line for the HD800s....thinkin' maybe April now?

x100. Damnit Senn..throw us a bone here. That or get more peeps on the production line. If the Germans could produce 10 Panzer IV's a day during the height of the war, than surely it shouldn't be too difficult to produce 100 HD800's a day

Yeah, you might want to edit your post before the hounds get released! (I blacked it out of the quote above just in case ) But I do pay the devil a visit pretty frequently and plug my 600 ohm Sextetts right into the %^&%#. could be better, but still sounds great!
