Not Soooo, Fugly. Just makes me want to compare them to the Qualia...
Back to the future, April 2004...US$2,400.

Is this the final styling? I thought perhaps since it is a pre-production model, it has some more flash and eccentric styling, and that production units may have some toned down aesthetics?

No this is the final Design as the HD800 is now presented on the sennheiser website with some videos, pictures etc.. It looks the same.

Wow, thank you so much for the breaking new...Lot's of expectation raised now... Senn, please, don't disapoint us, this is so exciting news.

I am wondering how they would respond to balanced operation

Most probably my first trully high end cans.

By the way, I am looking forward to seeing insane market prices dropping for world class discontinued headphones (R10, L3000, Q010, etc...)

I can't wait for more impressions. I hope these sound as good as Jude just hyped them to be. (I don't doubt that they do.)

But seriously, I don't care what anyone says about aesthetics being irrelevant, these are way too ugly for $1,400 phones. A year ago when the image of the prototype leaked (link) nearly everyone who saw it agreed that they looked like cheap crap.

Well since no one is going to ask, i'll have to do it.

~$1,000 is my guess. Based on the $1,400 MSRP...

This is great news! Cheap HD650 here I come!

The Sony MDR-SA5000 and the Bose Triport mated then?

I think all black would've looked nicer.

great news,
but sadly out of my range..

if all the hype & Pricing matches the sound quality. this will be a very good can indeed. However, My Guess is that the Sennheiser House sound since HD580 will be lost in this latest can.
maybe a Muscle bounded version of K701???

A silly question

Why is the round part of the pad towards the front and the other one to the back? This is the inverse of the shape of the ears.
