Why would you care? These are not meant for portable use. These are for home use. Can you see what your headphones look like on your head?

When you pay $1400 and it looks like a cheap phone to you, then you might be wondering why did you pay so much for..

I can't wait for the reviews. It's pricey at $1400, but I'm sure the price is going to drop after the initial release frenzy.

hey maybe some people sit in front of a wall mirror you know?

no but seriously, since a single impression and photos is all people have to go on looks are obviously going to be picked apart. Cant do a whole lot else.

Personally i think they dont look too great as well, and its the color. Reminds me of a plastic bezel on a cheap electronic. However i think the ED9s look cheap too so whats that matter? If opinions are unanimous that they feel great, sound great, and arent penny pinching in the quality compartment then you wont hear another word from anyone. As it stands, theres not a whole lot to talk about other than looks, and price.

Congrats on the scoop Jude! I ran into Eric Palonen from Senn at Macworld today and he said you were the lucky one to get first dibs tonight. It's only just, and I am really looking forward to more news from you and Drew and whoever else is at CES. Keep 'em coming because I want to know what I'm getting. When I pay $1400 for a headphone, I want it to 1) have world-class sound quality; 2) be extremely comfortable; and 3) have best-in-class build quality.

I couldn't care less what it looks like. In fact, I'd rather that the money spent making it look snazzy go into squeezing out every extra last drop of SQ and durability.

If they can make it look great, then so much icing.

Good looks sets the mood. Good looks set a certain expectation. And let's be honest they create sales. Sennheiser will sell more of these thigns is they look good so of course appearance needs to be considered.
