Hearing

Over the years like everyone my music tastes have changed, quite a bit for me, and thanks to good players etc i can pick out little nuances like someone breathing or plucking the strings on a harp for instance.

The only problem is say if im speaking on a phone or someone doesn't speak to me clearly, thanks to how ive trained my mind it will automatically blot it out, i can hear what is being said but it just doesn't register if that makes sense?

Anyone know what im on about, is there such a thing?

On the upside i love my music now more than ever.

I have something similar. I have tested my hearing and despite my tinnitus I actually have more sensitive hearing than average, could hear even very silent test tones, but still I have trouble figuring what someone is saying from time to time and it is frustrating...

Where can one get hearing tested?

Audiologist for extensive and indepth hearing tests. And many doctors also do some basic hearing tests at the most important frequency ranges.

I must say I recognize your problem. I can pick things up but often it only stays with 'picking it up'.

Well it's not my hearing, it's fairly typical for someone my age, he seemed surprised my hearing was so well balanced, both ears are very close frequency wise to each other.

Exactly apatn i can hear it but don't take it in, like my mind filters out anything that's junk.
