Using EQ to get any bass

Right now, my setup goes like this:

Emu 0404 (External) --> Foobar w/ KS --> DT-770/80

When I bought my Beyers almost a year ago, I was a little underwhelmed on the bass output on these. That was until I upped the lower frequencies on the foobar's equalizer. The bass and the punch was there that I wanted.

My question is, being the bass cans these are, should I be having to bump up the EQ so much to get any bass at all?

Would an amp be able to solve my problem?

General question. General answer: Yes, you will enhance your bass output, to at least some degree, with an amp, everything being equal. Obviously, it is hard to say much beyond that without knowing the specifics. Are you using the E-MU 0404's headamp? What are your EQ settings in foobar?

I can't imagine needing to boost bass with a dt770 pro 80 - try it out of some other source (onboard sound, ipod, whatever) for a sanity check.

Underwhelmed by the bass of a DT770/80 PRO...

I think he needs a hearing check, not a sanity check.

Yeah, I've tried it out of my friends laptop, onboard(Which sounds terrible by the way), and a zune. They were all underwhelming.

This is my EQ right now.

Wow....that's a huge boost. What speaker setup are you using? That might explain something.

I've got some studio monitors plugged into the EMU.

Also, I just tried my cans on my other laptop, and the sound coming out of it was obviously more bassy with no equalization. I have no idea why it wouldn't sound the same on my brothers laptop though.

My other laptop is an Acer, if that makes any difference.

That's correct. These right here:

Of course mine says 80Ohm.

WTF? I have DT880 and i MISS BASS but i dont need to use EQ like you do. I raise 55 and 77Hz just a little. Nothing like that for sure! Are you sure that is everything right?

Edit: and i listen to exactly same music as you do.

I just don't understand why they don't sound right on anything but the Acer.

I used to have a Internal Soundblaster Live! 24 bit and I had to do the same Equalization.

Please guys, I am really frustrated right now. I really have no idea what the problem could be.

Perhaps the plug isn't in all the way? Or an intermittent cable problem?

Something is very likely broken if you feel there isn't enough bass with those headphones - amped or not.

That kind of EQ boost to deep frequencies with DT770 seem very wierd... Are you sure they are not faulty?

It can't be the cable or the headphones problem. It would have to be a software or hardware issue with the computer. Like I said, I am listening to them of of a cheap acer laptop I have and they sound absolutely fantastic without any EQ'ing.
