Haha, I do but that's nowhere near metal. wink.gif And I actually didn't like Raven that much. I thought the other two albums were much better.

Check out my review on Metal-Fi.

Out of all their other albums, which would you say it's most like?  Or maybe which could be seen as a stepping stone to this album.

That's hard but I would say, as I did in the review, Outer Limits. Go there.

Wow,

After reading your review it has caused me to get really interested in finding their old records. I also had to replay And Death Said Live. If this album is so good, I really can't imagine the way the old stuff could sound?

Embarrassingly, I have only heard Mors Principium Est's And Death Said Live. I can't compare them to their early efforts with a 1/2 way different band. I agree that in parts the album is maybe a little generic. But not ready for prime-time?

OK.....It's 25% generic sounding......lol  To tell you the truth, I hear very little good original metal at all these days. It's either too experimental/no talent, or a carbon copy of what has been done before.

My thing is that I'm a guitar player so any guitar-centric production with fireworks just does me in.

We have talked before about what bands are pushing MDM forward. Maybe it's very tired at times in sound, but I will be playing it a lot this year. I would rather play it than say COB or In Flames.

I'm just glad I'm not the only guy on this metal list who was alive in the 70's.....Yeah Sabbath always had that black magic factor, and they were anything but. That's a great point. You can read Ozzy's lyrics on his first couple of solo efforts and the talks about "learning how to love and not hate".

I got really into the hard rock of the time (Kiss, Van Halen, AC/DC) and then when I was in college started to wake up to Sabbath and Zeppelin. For me Zeppelin are what the Beatles were to my parents, know what I mean?

I'm just getting into the headfi thing. I've got my first cans-Grado 225i, I'm waiting for a Schiit amp and just today, I've got a new CD player (an Onkyo 7030) that I'm playing into a 1990 Pioneer system. Finally have a decent source and I'm playing Samothrace-Reverence to Stone-which is totally appropriate riffing on a Sabbath post-DOOOOOOM!

It's a beautiful thang....Thank you Black Sabbath for starting this trend.

Yeah, can't agree more. Back in the 70's Sabbath was metal. I remember being at a party and hearing Master of Reality for the 1st time. I was hooked.

Speaking of Van Halen, they were great, but def came after. In fact, in '78 I saw an arena concert (Nassau Coliseum) where Van Halen was the opening act for Black Sabbath.  One of the best concerts I've ever seen. Better than seeing Rainbow at the Beacon Theater (NYC) on their first tour, or Blue Oyster Cult & Mountain open for KISS (on New Year's Eve yet). I suppose I'm dating myselfsmily_headphones1.gif

Though they don't much for Dave, I'm very very excited about the new Persefone album. Review will be up when it comes out. Redcarmoose, give this a shot.

Yes, I just saw the new video and heard the new song on Metalstorm. IDNO, I actually like the last albums and listen to a couple once in a while.

Not really my style anymore though.

On the other hand.........................

"Contra Rationem" is the title of the third full length album of Centurian. It is their long awaited first album in 12 years.

What an unexpected surprise this was. This is what I play all the time. Every song sounding very close to being the same on first listen. Same guitar sound, same vocals. Each breakdown is a little different, each song becomes more special with every listen. A very organic and warm production, making this maybe my second favorite of the year so far. This is the year when all the old Death Metal bands come out of the woodwork and show how it's really made to be done.

Check em out here!

That 2007 album does sound cool/plus great songs. The 03 and 2010 EPs sound like they were recorded underwater! lol. The 07 album rocks! I will be listening to it a ton. THX-THX-THXredface.gif This is the reason I come by this place.........to find info like this!!

I think I hear dogs howling outside?eek.gif

Thanks for that....often treading in stoner/sludge/doom/black alt terrain, I'm pretty fickle about DM-A lot of DM sounds generic and monotonous to my old school ears.

But, I like this oneL3000.gif

I think I'm more of a fan of old school DM-good stuff brother. That said, my experience is reasonably limited. I just know what sounds cool to me....keep 'em comin.

BTW, anyone listen to Lord Mantis-Pervertor. I don't know what to call this-blackened sludge, but that doesn't do it justice. It is warped lyrically, but unlike a lot of sludge, I find it quite dynamic with interesting, almost proggy twists and turns.....
