The VSD1 is the latest in a rather long line of budget in ear monitors including the VC02, GR99, GR02 and others that promises high quality sound for around $50 or so. While I haven’t had...
I tried a few Grado's —didn't like the Grado house sound—, a few Senn's —HD650 left a good impression—, a few lower-end AT's —I thought the AD700 were impressive for the price— and after reading...
In my recent quest for a new set of cans, I took a slight detour into the land of flashy prosumer headphones, in the form of the HK CL. The only reason I tried a pair was the price: half off,...
The Creative Aurvana Live! solved a major problem for me—how to listen to good audio while walking the dog at night. I live near a commercial and bar district in Center City, Philadelphia and I'm...
Okay..well this is my first review..if you may call it so..hence any,,amatuerish mistakes be forgiven..here we go..
So i saved some money(i'm always short of it) for the Vsonic gr02 be..after...
As far as Cult of Luna is concern, IMO, Vertikal is their best work to date. Check my full review here.
Your review looks great-I'm sure I would have picked it up, but now I definitely will. I seem to go through phases in my metal tastes-but I dig post metal-or atmospheric hardcore-or whatever the correct tag is-when done well. I've spent a lot of time w/ Salvation and Somewhere Along the Highway. But, I skipped their last release. this one looks like a keeper.
I'm a big fan of Neurosis and pretty much would buy anything they put out. I like Honor Found in Decay, but actually think I prefer Given to the Rising....they're such an important band...and they turned me onto my favorite release last year-Swans-non metal as it is. Since Isis split-I've been missing some solid post-whatever.....
And, yes, thumbs up to Royal Thunder in my book. Great stuff. I'm open to a lot of styles, and am not afraid of extremity, but I'm enjoying the retro swing back to clean vocals with bands that throw back to days gone by...meaning the likes of Witchcraft, The Sword, Hammers of Misfortune, Baroness Dawnbringer, etc. I think that's a good thing. I like extreme metal, but find it burns me out after a while....

Hey Mark, thanks for that! I got another one for you, I just reviewed it today (atmospheric sludge/post like CoL):
Please follow us, as we got a lot cool stuff coming in the next couple of weeks - including equipment reviews (takes some time, but we are getting there). Edited by Trogdor - 2/14/13 at 6:25pm
I plan on getting the new LPs. Liked what I heard so far.
Bare in mind that the vinyl and CD share the same master. A big bummer if you ask me. But this is my favorite CoL album to date followed by Salvation. Its amazing!
Eh. Considering I have no digital source right now the LPs are my only option, honestly. Shame they didn't take the time to do another master, but it's almost to be expected nowadays as most people buying vinyl right now wouldn't know the difference.
I'm glad it's coming back but the general hipster demographic of it kind of breeds ignorance when it comes to mastering techniques.
Plus I still get the kick ass art and liner.

That right there is my main reason for buying LPs. Good sound is a nice bonus, but it's great to have an actual physical object in your hands, and the albums with better art make a good display.
Where is SoupRKnowa when you need him? Seriously. Unfortunately macro, this discovery goes to Soup but thanks for reminding us. Their follow up I thought was not as good as Fragments.
haha i was out of commission for quite a while on this thread. I got way behind on vacation and then just never had the chance to sit down and catch up...but i just did! had to get through like 350 posts. and found some new music in there i liked as well.
For starters trogdor, i loved that ODEM EP, i wish i could get it on CD already. The other song i really liked was the Grayceon song, Pearl, ive never really listened to them before but i loved that song, so ill have to check out the rest of it.\
The other song that really caught me was the Havok song, i have also never listened to them before. One thing though, is that while i think the instrumentals are freaking amazing, the vocals....i think leave a bit to be desired.
~
I think where i had left off before, was with my top 10 list, and i had said that i was gonna investigate some of the releases that i had missed throughout the year to find those hidden gems. So here's some of the standouts in no particular order.
Skyharbor - Blinding White Noise
Down - Down IV Pt 1 - The Purple EP
Car Bomb - w^w^^w^w
Royal Thunder - CVI
Architects - Daybreakers
I also like the new Converge CD quite a bit, and the new Hour of Penance CD, sedition i think is quite a bit better than paradogma was
Oh Redcar, you are breaking my heart. Dave did an in depth review on Metal-Fi!
Breaking your heart on Valentines Day? Actually you guys are great. So many write-ups. We are not worthy! I thought you may have mentioned the band here. I will get over and read the review! Sorry.
