Well I of course messed up on my top 10 of the year and missed the absolutely amazing Pinkish Black self-titled debut, Pinkish Black (note the video is a bit wonky):

The whole album is available for streaming on their Bandcamp page. It's the best $7 you will spend all year!

quite enjoyed that, thanks...and worth the $$$ for sure.  love the drone/doom influence, non offensive vocals and breezy synth work!  almost pop-doom!  i'm really falling for handmade birds!

Just found my new favorite album of the year, "Subliminal Colors", by Mendel.  It's got strings, piano, classical guitar, and best of all shreds to the max.  Oh, and it's an instrumental, with a 25 minute track.  You can download it free here http://mendelian.bandcamp.com/album/subliminal-colors  (I redownloaded it after listening, because this was so good I decided he had to get paid)

 

Seriously, if you like metal, you're gonna like this album.  And it's available in alac or flac to boot.  I can't recommend this enough, give it a listen

Since it's finally that last day of the year, I decided to leave my favorite releases, I don't have a number specific list, but the first one is my No.1. My tastes differ from most here, but I think it will be nice indeed to leave it

 

1. Between The Buried And Me- The Parallax II: Future Sequence (yes I like (love) guitar wankery, especially if it's done by these guys)

The Contortionist- Intrinsic (fails to compare to their debut, IMO, but still delivered)

Intervals :In Time (It's an E.P, but still killer for progressive intrumental djenty schiit)

Enter Shikari- A Flash Flood Of Colour (Don't even know if it qualifies for metal)

 

The Haarp Machine- Disclosure

 

Meshuggah- Koloss

 

Animals As Leaders- Weightless

 

Stone Sour : House Of Gold And Bones Pt 1. (Hate on me if you want, I think It's the best They've put out, and Corey Taylor's vocals are terrific here)

 

Slice The Cake- The Man With no face( ridiculous name, Terrific album)

To kick things off right, we interviewed Dan Swano of Edge of Sanity, Katatonia, Bloodbath who also owns Unisound studios. We talked about Incantation, the new Omnium Gatherum, and the art of "mixtering."

I was really surprised this wasn't on more year end lists. The album was good, but I didn't like it. It felt too ambitious.

So guys. I need some music to read to. Recommend me some vocal free Metal. 

 

Been really into Animals as Leaders lately, and Lustre has been good to me recently as well. 

 

Ambient BM is definitely mainly what I'd like to find.
