I missed the set. But I am seeing the Opeth show tomorrow night so I should be able to see Katatonia then. They are great.

Is it my system or are the cymbals on heritage really badly recorded.

Yeah they are great. The albums before Tonight's Decision have harsh vocals and are more traditional doom metal. Starting with TD, they switched to their current gothic style with clean vocals exclusively. I think Jonas felt that he couldn't do harsh vocals anymore, which is why Mikael Åkerfeldt guested on Brave Murder Day.

One of my favorites:

I saw them at the Opeth show actually and think a lot of the people in attendance liked Katatonia more. People were ready to get amped up and half of Opeth's set was acoustic.

My favorite song they played was Soil's Song.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y389T7iaBH4

We were at the same show I think. I missed Katatonia because trains were running late. That's okay, we are seeing them at the Troc tonight again. It will be (despite having tickets to two other shows Katatonia shows) my first time seeing Katatonia.

I have no idea why folks are whining. The set is absolutely beautiful. Yeah, its not the heavy stuff. Big deal. Its fantastic music. Don't get me wrong, I love the heavy stuff too (BWP is #1).

I finally broke down a listened to Leprous. Great stuff. Now I know what everyone is talking about. I wonder how they are live.

Any recommendations for other good post-metal/sludge bands like Agalloch, Alcest, Altar of Plagues, Isis, and Les Discrets?  I started looking at some of the other bands on Nuclear Blast, but they don't seem as interesting.  I'm not a fan of Drudkh or Empyrium, unfortunately.  I was browsing some depressive black metal, but it seems to be missing something the bands above have.

Also, are there any suggestions for other melody-heavy prog metal bands like Persefone?

Thanks for the suggestion :)  Leprous kind of gets to what I'm looking for but the exaggerated vocals are distracting for me, kind of like why I can't get into Stratovarius.  They sound a bit too glam/hair metal for me.
