If you end up getting both or either, I'd love to see some impressions here of how they sound with different sub-genres of metal. I'm still considering the 700s as it would seem they sound way different than the HE-400s and it'd be nice to have a different sounding pair. But I feel like I should just save for a year or two for a clear upgrade to the 400s.

Sure thing. As it stands now, I will get the HD 700 first. (It's crazy that it was originally $1,000 and now I'm able to get it without too much trouble.) The HE-500 seller is willing to wait for me, since I may have the cash for it soon enough.

I like the album. Very different and cool. Love the recording and the musicianship.

They never go away but become the thread's special unknown band.

Still I wonder if they could ever reform again?

So, the new Leviathan sounds pretty good on my newish speaker system in terms of hifi which was a surprise. It's a pretty good sounding album to me. My little system tends slightly to the warmer side of neutral which isn't always ideal for the colder analytical sound of a lot of metal-more of a musical sound sig for a variety of music....but some albums just sound great. This is one of them. Who knew?

TOBH, I'm still enjoying all of my music /metal and otherwise from 2014 which contrary to some for me was a good year in music. My '14 playlist has about 740 some songs-pretty substantial for what I normally buy-but some of it is streamed-one of the many joys of Sonos is I can make a playlist from songs I own and add stuff as well from my Spotify account. So, as my wife says, "why don't you stop buying music, then"?

Never!!!

I'm listening to jazz with flutes and saxophones. ^_^

...But next up: Fear Factory! :veryevil:

For me, that band is like a more mainstream Meshuggah.

I'm trying my best but I don't love it. It's good, no doubt, and original....just can't get really into it for some reason
