Lol......come to think about it, all their older stuff was better. There catalogue is a declining graph line.

Remember the 3D cover art on Savior Sorrow? They made 500,000 copies of em.

XX was a complete re recording of all their first songs. I remember they were already big before they got released on a main label.........2001 was a long time ago.

Ha ha.. There you go.. Now that's a great video

Their new videos are painful to watch and look cheesy instead of edgy.

Okay, I heard Siren Charms. Has some cool guitar riffs and leads. Aside from that, didn't like it much. I'll still buy it, though!

If you go to the 8 minute 50 second mark and listen to "Only For The Weak" from Clayman you may get what they are about?

This is what I think is their peak and a perfect gateway song for anyone who does not understand what they are about. It shows the perfect style that is natural for them. Don't try hard to listen to the song but let it wash over you. It has simple gothic overtones and a simple guitar lead. It is as if they are not trying but doing what it just natural. Thus we have the classic In Flames.

I left the 'Inflames' train, after Reroute to Remain.

As far as Melodic Death(gothenburg influenced) is concerned.

Allaegeon, In Mourning and Words of Farewell seem like the current flag bearers...

Dark Tranq too I guess? Though I agree there last few have been meh. Though I can't say I like IM's last one either.

What about The Black Dahlia Murder?

So, I have been thinking about Pale Communion a lot and now I know why I hate it.

In 2011, I had just joined Head-fi and then Opeth released Heritage. Till then I didn't really care about Opeth. I was a Metalcore guy and my horizons had to expand.

As the seasoned veterans and old Opeth fans, abused Heritage, I listened to their old catalog. However, Heritage remained my first real Opeth experience and I will always love it. Just like Load - Metallica was my first Metallica experience :)

At that time, I didn't know Prog Rock (Rush, Gentle Giant, Yes, Genesis etc.). But I listened to them over the course of 2012.

I also listened to the entire Opeth catalog and liked a lot of their older stuff. I used to defend Heritage against the Head-fi skeptics(check posts from 2011-12 same thread)

But, three years have passed and my expectations with Opeth have also changed.

Pale Communion is Prog but sadly, its not the Opeth release I was waiting for. Actually, its not even the Prog I like.

I have seen Opeth live and Mikael is by far the best front man I have ever seen.

I now know, why all the Head-fi veterans were disappointed when Heritage was released. Trust me, I know !!!!

TBDM.. Hmm ..They don't remind me of In Flames.

DT, yes definitely but again only the older releases. I loved "The Weight of The Oceans"

TBDM for me is a different band. I love Ritual and Everblack.

True. But still classified as Melo Death. That's all I was saying.

Really? That's the song you would recommend to a newcomer to the band? It's way too mainstream-sounding if you are trying to explain why the band are considered legends in the genre. I would recommend Whoracle or Colony instead.

...But the person you're talking to has supposedly heard all their albums and only then made a judgment. If not, he has no say in the matter.

Melodic death metal is my favorite metal subgenre. I can't believe I have never even heard of these bands!

I like DT's newer albums more than the older ones. (But love it all.)

For the sake of clarity, have you heard all of In Flames' albums? What do you dislike about them exactly?
