I'm familiar with their whole catalogue but Exile sucks. Just a bad record, glad they got their act together after that one.

I'd love to post a YouTube video of me breaking my personal CD in half. That is my idea of entertainment.

I described Deafheaven as hardcore punk + black metal + post-rock.

Aww, how cute. They are also referred to as post-black metal.

Personally I think BM is just a style of music, but I understand why the tr00 kvltists would like to keep it for themselves. Anyways I digress, sorry for the OT. I just find it very interesting and entertaining, especially the "battle" between the unholy black and the holy white metal crowds wink.gif

I refuse to use the terms "white metal" and "unblack metal" since as far as I am concerned, music is music; the beliefs of the performers mean zilch to me.

On a related note, Solace by Lengsel is in my personal top ten black metal albums of all time. I also have their self-titled compilation, which is limited to 200 copies!

I'm assuming you've heard their demos as well then.

Haha, when I was ten, my old best friend (who I have known since I was four) and I got a Hanson CD, chopped it up into little pieces with an axe, then pieced it back together just to see if it would play in the stereo - it somehow did!

The Eps only. I just listen to the couple main LPs though. The four except Exile of course. Thus only three.

Of course their ultimate fans are not with us any longer.

The EPs were released after Exile. (Speaking of those, I really love "Sister September [Director's Cut mix]" more than the album version.)

The old demos were released again in a limited box set entitled Suicide Is Sexy.

...which brings us to your article. I have only one comment: emo.

I own the Korean edition of Redemption Process, which has two demos as bonus tracks.

Is the "not my thing" comment merely based on looking at their listed genres or have you actually heard them all?

Here is a phenomenal Dominion III (electronic/industrial black metal) song.

Much better Dead Heart in a Dead World

In case you weren't aware, the band is named after a Marduk album.

Thanks, I will have to try and hear those. Not the biggest fan of them nowadays, though I know some folks are. Love the way they used to look. They were truly scary looking. Maybe the scariest look BM band ever.

What do you guys think about "The Project Hate MCMXCIX"? Ever since I heard them, been an absolute fan - incredibly creative music, ultra catchy riffs, epicness, elevated to extremes - definitely one of the best death metal bands I've ever heard.

How could anyone listen to ******** like Six Feet Under and Cannibal Corpse, when there's such beauty on the death metal scene, is beyond me.

They're like a filthier Cradle Of Filth.

...but nah. Plenty of scarier-looking BM bands out there.

Averse Sefira

CREATOR: gd-jpeg v1.0 (using IJG JPEG v62), quality = 75

They have sick album covers too:

Antaeus (these guys don't need corpse paint, and you won't understand how scary they are until you hear them)

DHG

Just discovered Semargl. If I create that astro metal band, I need to make sure to have a hot chick like her in the band! =P

+1
I personally can't take these idiots serious, but I know that other people do.
"It's totally fine if you are listening to Satanic Warmaster/Absurd etc only because of the music!"
********. It's not.

Is there something wrong with this term? I think it's rather fitting.

It is fitting; I just found it ironically convenient.

In related news, the Icelandic post-rock band Sigur Rós have produced albums for black metal bands.

By the way, I'm listening to Fas - Ite, Maledicti, In Ignem Aeternum now. I was surprised you didn't like Averse Sefira so much, since you like DO.

I can't quiet follow you. Whatever ♥

Yes they do.

They are nice but again more like a light-version of DO. Songwriting is more monotonous IMO.

I don't mean to be the spelling police or anything, but I do like helping people out: you keep saying "quiet" (silent) instead of "quite" (rather).

I just meant that instead of having to say hardcore punk + black metal + post-rock, I could simply say post-black metal.

Yeah, AS have a more straightforward style. Did you hear tracks from all their albums?

DO is definitely a less accessible band, because their songs are all over the place with those intricate passages.
