Lets Talk Metal - Page 1000

A little off topic, I'm just realizing that my turntable's tonearm is out of whack. The arm doesn't float to the center with the counterweight at the back and anti-skate at 0 (SL-1200). I've never had skipping issues, though, should I worry about it?

It sucks, this paranoia started when my cartridge's cantilever got bent while attempting to play my slightly warped Vainaja record. Now I'm out at least ~$90 for a new cart. :( I've no idea if the wonky tonearm has anything to do with it...

Yob -Catharsis seems to have inspired from Sleep - Dopesmoker

Hey trogdor, I think I've mentioned this in the past. But as technically proficient as I've found Formshifter and now Elements of the Infinite, they both just haven't clicked with me like Fragments did...I really like how much groovier, but still more technical, and yet also more grand in scale that Elements is, but it just doesn't do it for me like Fragments did...maybe it's the production of the last two that's ruining them for me? I dunno

I am really digging the new Origin album though, like it quite a bit more than Entity.

the new Behemoth is definitely and defiantly evil but it is very much a personal journey type of satanic stuff, the power of one-self and all that rather than the old school shock value style.  It's inspired (from what i've read in interviews) from his journey through the cancer and all that, so you may find it interesting.  musically it's my favorite Behemoth, i've never been a huge fan but I do like the new one, the riffage is crushing no doubt.   If we're talking titans of Polish extreme metal, I still prefer the new Vader....I'm just drawn to Vader's style

Listening to the new Allageon now, so far impressed although it's in the background on speakers, gotta concentrate on work today :(

wrathzombie:  nice list!  i've heard most of them, the ones i haven't i'll be checking out for sure!  i agree with most of them as well :)  except for cynic and lantlos LOL didn't really like either of them, although the lantlos does have it's moments

Found the new Mayhem at Best Buys of all places along w/ the Zep 1 remaster.

Agreed w/ your commnets about Mayhem-one listen-the new Mayhem is excellent. As much as I  liked the avant chaos of Ordo Ad Chao-this feels like they took some of those qualities and streamlined them w/ a little more focus. A bit less abstract.  Atillas' performance is off the hook. I  love what he brings to his projects. Guy should be given an Oscar.

+1

Am I the only one here who really really wants a new Deathspell Omega album?

Yep, I was listening to it tonight and thought the same thing.

Could be. Not sure. Interestingly enough, I was listening to Formshifter and Elements side by side. For me, Elements is a much better record to my ears. It's more diverse, the hooks are INSANE, and the virtuosity is still on the same level.

But I have to admit, it's crushed dude....I MEAN CRUSHED...

Getting my pop metal fix-back to Best Buys for the new Crowbar and Mastodon. They're both keepers in my book. I didn't like The Hunter-too rock radio for me-but I think the new Mastodon once through sounds like they've brought some grit back to their sound and straddle a line between sludge, classic retro metal and old fashioned hard rock. Clean vocals, but a decent straight up hard rock record.  Crowbar has a winner if you like the Nola style.

My random thoughts....

+1 on all accounts. Elements is really good, a heck of a lot of fun and recorded terribly

I picked up YAITW - when life comes to death....a great dose of crust/blackened hardcore. Lyrically...well it's young but it's a fun listen and a nice change on the post BM that's been flooding lately

Where are you guys hearing the new Origin? Only three tracks are up on the bandcamp page, and release date isn't until July 4th.
