just don't post anything on their facebook, you'll be insulted and harassed by ignorant/deaf little twats

Which is a little sad, considering it's that mentality that's probably driving that type of sound, unfortunately...

In other news, if you guys want highish-quality teasers of all of Septicflesh's new album, I found this linky: http://www.zdigital.com.au/artist/septicflesh/release/titan

My thoughts? Well let's put it this way, the two songs they teased with actually sound like the weakest ones...

EDIT: Wrong link.

Ah, so that's where it happened. I was wondering.

I have not heard them yet, but my understanding is Septic Flesh is now single handily destroying their back catalog with each new reissue.

Anybody heard them?

Looking forward to Titan.

I'll shamelessly buff some Finnish stuff again. Vainaja - Kadotetut. Mastered by Dan Swanö and the vinyl sounds just crushingly good. Try it, friends!

Hey Troggie have you found out whether "The Satanist" LP had a separate master or not?

DR database says it's a solid 11.

Nope. Everybody is hush hush.

My guess is IT IS a separate master, since I'm not sure how they would even begin to press this compressed disaster. I mean bare minimum if Teddy J sent this to the press, it would almost certainly be altered before the vinyl guy would cut the wax.

It also shocks me when someone tells me how amazing The Satanist sounds. Yeah, it's better than Demigod, but honestly, is that saying much? I don't think so. I think The Satanist overall still a terrible sounding record despite my affinity for the music.

Lately I have been listening to a lot of Boris, getting pumped for their new one, and their music is so poorly mastered it's kinda ludicrous at this point.

I understand the low DR scores on their drone "let's play with three or four notes over the course of ten minutes" but on both Heavy Rocks records...here is their latest:

DR5 -1.05 dB -7.18 dB Boris - Heavy Rocks - 01 Riot Sugar.wav
DR6 -0.45 dB -8.86 dB Boris - Heavy Rocks - 02 Leak-Truth,yesnoyesnoyes-.wav
DR5 -1.05 dB -8.11 dB Boris - Heavy Rocks - 03 GALAXIANS.wav
DR5 -1.05 dB -6.55 dB Boris - Heavy Rocks - 04 Jackson Head.wav
DR4 -0.05 dB -8.01 dB Boris - Heavy Rocks - 05 Missing Pieces.wav
DR7 -9.05 dB -18.49 dB Boris - Heavy Rocks - 06 Key.wav
DR6 -0.05 dB -7.82 dB Boris - Heavy Rocks - 07 Window Shopping.wav
DR6 over -7.19 dB Boris - Heavy Rocks - 08 Tu, La La.wav
DR4 -0.05 dB -5.60 dB Boris - Heavy Rocks - 09 Aileron.wav
DR5 -1.05 dB -8.33 dB Boris - Heavy Rocks - 10 Czechoslovakia.wav

Does this make ANY SENSE whatsoever? Whoever is mastering this must be guessing...take for instance, the song "Missing Pieces" which is for all intents and purposes is a ballad with a drone based intermission. DR4. WTF!?

At this point, I'm pretty convinced the band is deaf and that the only way they can even hear anything is to compress everything to death.

Be careful with vinyl DR scores. They mean very little without confirmation from the label and/or artist.

MetalSucks about the new Septic Flesh record:

"Production is that one component of theatrics that can spotlight the content while keeping the music from tipping over into unconvincing melodrama. And that clearly makes a lot of sense to Septicflesh, because the production is the first thing you notice while listening to Titan, the band’s first studio album in three years. Titan sounds legendary: it reeks of omnipotence and its accompanying egotism, crafting sonic textures that most mortals wouldn’t even attempt to imitate. A lot of that’s due to the Prague Philharmonic, whose appearance marks their third consecutive performance on Septicflesh records; no VST presets or iPhone apps here. Those symphonic sections serve as the main voice of the album, and they make Titan downright nasty – check out the slithering passages in the title track. The drawn-out orchestral sprawl of “Prototype” and “Prometheus” reminds me of the first time I heard “Oceans of Grey,” and the oddly-titled “Confessions of a Serial Killer” possesses that same fierce gallop that made you want to live inside tracks like “Lovecraft’s Death.” Titan possesses massive timbral weight, borne by catchy, entrenched grooves."

Hmmmm....this should be very interesting...

That's too bad since I absolutely adore Boris.

God, I love this song so much ♥

I'm gonna have to go with Buried with Leeches by Dragged Into Sunlight. The band brings a lot of grindcore and black metal influences in, but that gritty, distorted death metal production is what sells this record for me.

You know, Dragged Into Sunlight's last one was too over-hyped. That album was not nearly as good as it it should have been IMO.
