Mark, you may like Spawn of Possession's Incurso if you come from a classical background. It might be a bit too insane for you if you're new to metal though.

Yep, I can't stand Dream Theatre. Tried and tried to like em.

I like maybe a handful of their songs. Octavarium and such.
This medley is pretty hype!

There are other ways to fuse metal and classical.
Gives me the chills in ways Apocalyptica and Nightwish never could.

Definitely an acquired taste. I like to listen to them once in a blue moon. I think Train of Thought which is one of their heavier albums is pretty good.

The rerelease on vinyl sounds amazing as well as the DTS digital files.

My favourite album of all time. I *think* I have every version that's been released...I remember paying an outrageous sum in the early 90's for "studio master tapes" that I love having but I'm suspicious about LOL

Is that the one LaBrie does his best Mustaine impression for a few minutes?

So you have a giant reel at your house? They been looking for that.lol.

I think the vinyl may be the best sounding rock record I own. I have the original Cd but as far as digital the DTS rules

They keep puting out material and folk keep swooping it up.

Dream Theater has a couple good albums. Images and Words is great. But yeah, their singer sounds like a trapped cat most the time. For prog metal, Eumeria is worth checking out.

Probably. I remember reading they recorded Train of thought after touring w/ Metallica and wanted to put slightly heavier thrasher elements. I agree the vocals sometimes sound a bit too pop. But, TTrain of Thought is a heavier album for them. I also think it's one of the better I've heard. I'm not a huge fan, but I like TOT from time to time.
