Every once in a while an album comes around to remind you why you got into the genre in the first place.

Finally we get to hear new Judas Priest. Many younger metal heads may not be into them but for us old-timers they are endeared. The bittersweet thing is it is said this is their last album.mad.gif

They were pretty much my favorite band so many years ago, I'm not going to say.

Any honest metal fan has to admit how completely underwhelming that track is. Priest is legendary, but only through seriously rose-colored glasses can that be considered a quality outing for them.

Yes, I love the guitar tone of the first lead in this song. It just has that nice clear classic warmth. Considering the reception of their last studio effort this may be the definitive document of a great BM band at it's apex.

Yes. I hear you.

Aborted rule this year!

Much of their output is first rate though I think listening to them is an acquired taste. If you have the last album ( before their new one) Global Flatline you may love it. Many think it is better than this last effort. I like em both. I was surprised how accessible this last album was from the start.

Yes, I don't know what to make of this. You can totally hear the new guitar player. Being a Priest fan for years you know that we have personally been put into a lot of BS. It started with Turbo. We were handed ****N Ripper as a replacement vocalist. Now we have to deal with this new guitarist changing the whole Priest sound and making it into a prog sounding band.

I was one of the members here listening to Stained Class when it came out in the 70s. So they get a level of respect on whatever they do. I think we may see that Angel Of Retribution is going to end up being their last great album?

I was truly wanting Priest to keep the secret code they knew to make the above fantastic record. The sound, the lyrics, the song structures, and the order of the songs on the album are perfect. Not to mention the vocals are spot on in tune and recorded correct in the mix. A great comeback from a band that knows how to do it. Many would say they are solely responsible for taking the blues and jazz out of the Black Sabbath sound and forming metal as we know it today.

My album of the week has been the Full Dynamic Range remaster of Entombed's Clandestine. The mids are so smooth and the album is such a metal masterpiece. Anyone here who has not heard it deserves to hear the album the way it was meant to be. We are so lucky to have this artifact.

Well they are in their 60's....if they can put out a record as solid as sabbath's 13, it'll be a good enough note to hang up on. Only Lemmy is immortal, the rest gotta stop at some point

I was never a huge priest fan, but painkiller is one of my favorite metal albums ever and British steel is just too much fun

Heritage was just one bad step... in my opinion, at least. Watershed is my favorite Opeth album after all, and it was just one release before. I'm not going to lose interest in one of my favorite bands just cause of that.

Cynic handled the transition wonderfully, so I know it's not impossible.

Amazing how popular this is!

This is great too! Disregard the cover art. Much of his stuff is also played on a classical electric guitar. For fans of prog metal like Nevermore or Conquering Dystopia.

This was mentioned a few posts back. Thank-you. Glad I found out about them here!

In interviews it is stated that the new Opeth will be " more melodic " so I take that as Heritage Number 2. mad.gif

Crank it up, crank it loud, download the high quality version. You'll thank me.

Nice! Reminds me a lot of Bongrippers megatracks.

Super so syched for Lord Mantis. Pervertor from 2012 was one of my favorites. It's one of my favorite extreme metal albums in the last few years. It's dirty and foul and awesome.

Where Pervertor could've been forgiven for having an element of "fun", the same can't be said for death mask. The thrash element has somewhat given way to industrial, with a heavier blackened aspect, but this is most definitely a doom/sludge record, with walls of sickening feedback and thundering lurching percussion. Where triptykon has some sort of strength in its sorrow, death mask is a hopeless, bottomless pit of ugliness and despair.

Like cold of ages a couple years ago this record just scratched me right where I was itching....with the new agalloch and eyehategod on the way, this is definitely the year of sludge and doom
