Sorry, as self appointed moderator of this thread (just kidding, just kidding...), I suggest we get back on track (literally).

Since we are talking classics, I will start:

So even when you had Carl Palmer on drums, he wasn't famous till ELP after.

I'm into finding the origin of metal so looking at these guys and finding the above greatest hits record in 1999 was interesting.

Before Alice Cooper and before KISS, before corpse paint in Black Metal you had Arthur Brown. He really was the first.

I guess if folks around here get into Atomic Rooster in 2014 it is because they were really Metals grandfathers and somehow they are still interesting due to their musicianship and ideas. Vincent Crane committed suicide after many years of mental issues, so ya......he was as dark as his keyboard playing.

Atomic Rooster was a metal band before metal existed.

Skip to the 7 minute mark. LOL:D  Metal 1971!

That is bizarre on so many levels. It makes me think of the psychedelic  weirdness of Pipers at the Gates of Dawn fueled by Satan.

Appreciate the suggestions! though I have stuff from them all (except comatose vigil, thx). Just happened to discover mournful congregation recently, as alas, even an OCD collector like myself can't hear or have it all...but believe me I'm trying LOL thanks in no small part to this thread

An esoteric fan, and really big evoken fan. Someone posted grivf a few pages ago and that album has literally enthralled me, and redcarmoose got me to get the disembowlment 3 disc set which btw is really awesome and unique

I've been listening to a couple of my favorite BM releases from around 2011-2012.

Ash Borer's excellent 2012 release.

Bosse-de-Nage III 2012

Blut Aus Nord The Desantification-part of their trilogy

I tend to listen to the heavy hitters in the genre vs the real obscure stuff. But for my money, Ash Borer's Cold of Ages and Blut Aus Nord's trilogy are the best BM I've heard in the last couple of years.
