I think I now have all the tools to make some music of my own. I have a piano, guitars, a fretless bass (pictured) and I'm not too shabby of a singer if I may say so myself.

Now all that we need is to find the skills, inspiration, time and lose the perfectionist attitude to get everything started:p

I have their 2005 release Vinland Saga. I liked it at the time. It's almost too pop for me. Her vocals are beautiful. For my money, the acts that still hold up for me are Therion (who are in  a class of their own IMO), Tristania, Within Temptation and classic Nightwish.  Sirenia don't quite make if it for me.

Call me old and jaded, but now a band has to more than the beauty and the beast thing.. If I want nice female vocals in a "rock" band, I like The Gathering. For a mainstreamish act, I thought the last couple of Within Temptation albums were pretty good.

For a somewhat newer take on the genre, I'm a big fan of Virgin Black-more experimental and symphonic/operatic.

Very interesting. Thanks! I'm not sure how much I would listen to it....I'm sure it's a grower

Kind of like my reaction to Kayo Dot. I definitely dig a lot experimental stuff-Sigh,Sunn0)), etc. I guess I need some kind of hook or something....vs weird for weirdness sake....then again I'm sure there are many people who feel the same way about Blut Aus Nord and stuff like that and I'm a big fan of strange BM.

I'll have to keep my eyes open for Zorn...you've piqued my curiosity.

Looking good, good luck. And hang on to that perfectionist attitude! There are so many little things that I've been lazy with and now feel the need to fix before showing to anyone.

Thanks guys :]

macro, I really need to get more on the playful side instead of looking for mistakes and crying over every decision. Play WITH the instruments instead of playing them faultlessly. After that cometh the songs I hope.

Oh yeah, definitely have fun with it. I could never sit down and write something. Most ideas just come out of playing around with them.

I need ideas. I need a song to showcase the mids of guitar rippage. Trying to figure out why my truck sound is so severely V shaped. I will compare directly using headphones.

Ultimately I want a single track to benchmark all of my headphones. I am brain farting on some good, galloping riffs.

Let me rephrase... Well recorded, audiophile monster riffs. I really dislike thin sounding Metal recordings. I've been looking at youtube, but the quality leaves something to be desired. I'm so torn...

Pantera - Walk, Mouth for War

Slayer - Angel of Death, Seasons in the Abyss, Raining Blood, Mandatory Suicide (Decapitated version is killer too)

Meshuggah - Obzen, Bleed

Can you tell I like Slayer???
