+1 for Beyond Creation, amazing!

Beyond Creation is one of those "give it a few chances" if you hate wanking technicality and breakdowns

And to make it worse they did something strange with the WAVs so they wouldn't play on my Tera player.  Usually this would be due to tags but as you've noted there are none

Haven't had time to fix the files so haven't heard it yet, DR 4.5 with "coffee cups and cardboard box" drums doesn't sound too promising...

Yes, sound quality wise it could be better. I though that was the whole goal of the crowd-funding process? They wanted good sound from a nice studio.

Anyway after a few listens the album starts to really become enjoyable. On first listen your brain can't digest it for some reason.

I feel you will be able to enjoy everything from Monumension till Axioma Ethica Odini. I personally believe Monumension  is where, they start experimenting on a progressive sound. I feel they are the Opeth of black metal.

Yeah, the drums being so muted bugs me, but the songs themselves are so fantastic I can forgive it. One of the catchiest and engaging instrumental metal albums I've heard. Everyone's playing is phenomenal.

I totally agree and can't really come up with any other instrumental music other than Catch 33? Is that even instrumental?

Believe it or not I love the sound of the album playing straight out an Ipad2 straight into a pair of burned in AKG k701s. It would seem that combo would make the drums even more thin and it does. The drums sound like hummingbirds at times? lol

The k701s really dissect the heavy integrated mix and place all the individual instruments in their correct place, so you can really hear all that's going on. There is a lot going on in that record at once.

The only thing I can think of is the drum mix was thin so the guitars have more authority in the mix? I'm no sound engineer but I have done a ton of home studio recording. I know that if you have a super detailed mid, like the guitars we have here, it helps to lower the bass and drums so the mids add rhythm and stay in front.

The more I listen to it the more I care less about the sound as it does have a great sound. Then slowly it draws you into it's one of a kind sonic world. I hear so much of the past heavy lead guitar legends in the songs almost like some of the songs have individual guitar hero themes?

The song 7 "Lachrymose" sounds like a direct tribute to the Michael Schenker Group? IMO

Thanks for the recommendations. I bought the two Enslaved releases that preceded RIITIIR and I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy them.
