I purchased this CD in 1999, and used to play it a ton. Getting ready for Loomis's new album I started playing it and fell down the rabbit hole. I can't believe how great this is. I always liked it, now I love it!

Man, Iron Bonehead has some seriously good stuff. I discovered them when looking at Metal-Fi's bandcamp listening list. ;) I wonder if their vinyl records are worth taking a look at.

Death metal evocative of whirlwinds

Occult melodic black metal. Satan! Lucifer! Heh.

Never been a big fan of the vocals, but it's the overall impression that counts.

More Ulcerate/Gorguts inspired madness!
Mastered by the guy who did such a great job with the latest Gorguts and Krallice albums ;)

Does anyone have recommendations similar to Enslaved's RIITIIR? I have lots of metal but nothing quite reaches the perfect balance of catchiness and brutality as that album for me. I don't have any of their earlier work, does any of it compare to RIITIIR?

I have not gone further back than 'Axioma Ethica Odini' myself, but I can very much recommend it if you like 'RIITIIR'.

While I am struggling to name a band actually similar to Enslaved (or the other way around), you might (and probably already do) enjoy some of these similarly black-ish albums:

Dark Fortress - Ylem

Keep of Kalessin - Armada and Kolossus

Farsot - Insects

Rotting Christ - Kata Ton Daimona Eaytoy

Now if I were to simply ignore the black metal influence and assume 'the perfect balance of catchiness and brutality' were your only criteria, these spring to mind:

Gorod - Process of a New Decline

Beyond Creation - The Aura

Total Devastation - Reclusion

Phazm - Cornerstone of the Macabre

Scarve - The Undercurrent

(I tried to find Bandcamp links or full albums at Youtube where possible)
