I guess I'm just a bit disappointed :/
I think the album is fine and I don't regret ordering it. I also think that this is kind of "the next step" for this band but still......
*sigh*
It's the Heritage-dilemma all over again.
I wanted them to do more Les Voyages de l'âme stuff! That's one of my all time top 5 albums...
But what I got now is a nice but kind of replaceable Shoegaze album with Neiges amazing vocals.
*sigh²*

Maybe you'll grow to love it? :) Sometimes the best albums are the ones you rediscover years after they've been released.

There was no dilemma with Heritage for me at least. Absolutely none and since I have never given much attention to Alcest (before Heritage was released I had never given much attention to Opeth) there is no dilemma with Shelter so far.

That like saying to ME, your first Metallica album was St. Anger! Changes your perspective somewhat! biggrin.gif

And wrathzombie, please check out this (amazing stuff):

I would like to take back my word. Shelter didn't do what Heritage did. I thought it would when I started listening yesterday. Its shoegazy and sweet and all but nothing memorable. I listened to  the stream multiple times and as far as Shoegaze is concerned, there are so many better options out there.

Next step, check out other Alcest albums.

Truly, this Alcest record is terrible and I am a big Alcest fan. I have no idea what Neige was thinking. At least most of the reviews are calling it what it is...I will probably give it one more listen to see if I can mine any gold out of it.

Again, please click that link above wrathzombie....and understand why Alcest WAS something very special...

I think Neige's comment was blatant sarcasm... He is a BME after all.

Nah it's definitely not terrible. It's just unremarkable. It's easy on the ears if you don't know you're listening to Alcest and have no expectations.
